Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |

I finally got my check last week for the seismograph work. I see they marked the shot holes in the pasture but I don't know if they have acutally done the shots yet. I've been working out of town and coming home on weekends, one more week should finish that up though. Still a lot of activity in the area and they oil-topped the dirt road for truck access. Hopefully the drilling will get to us before long!

I'm in the log house right across the road from your property. I talked to the survey crew last week. We're in a bit of an awkward situation over in 13, we leased to KCS (Petrohawk) in 2006, their lease on International Paper's land expired and Chesapeake picked them up. But our lease doesn't expire until next year. So we have the situation of Petrohawk and Chesapeake in the same section, from what I can gather Chesapeake is going to wait them out and let all the leases expire so they can gather the whole section before they drill. As a result I have not been paid for the seismograph but the surveyor told me he was pretty sure Petrohawk and Chesapeake would work something out, they have too or they won't be able shoot holes on our land. The mineral holder has to sign off on it. I'm a bit confused as to why they're seismographing since they're already drilling in the area. But I guess they have their reasons.
Where you see the orange stakes with numbers is a "shot hole" location. That's where they'll set off the charges. I'll be keeping an eye out for them and let you know what is happening on the ground. Feel free to drop a line anytime to see what's going on.
My place is right across the road from yours in Section 13? Is your land leased to anyone? Sonris shows no well has ever been in production in Section 24 and I wondered if Chesapeake had leased it when they were working this area. I spoke to the survey crew last week when they were putting up those flags you were asking about. They are not the ones who will do the actual seismograph, that crew will be here in a month or so.
