insomniacnla: well said, I am definately not on the side of O&G, but lets look at another way.
If an O&G co gave you $30,000. bonus for a lease, then drilled and got a dry hole.... should you give part of that money back?

I also see what you are saying... your friends and realitives got paid much less than they deserved and the oil companies knew what they were doing.

Again that is what makes this site so great. If someone wants the knowledge they can get it for free right here. Communication is the most valuable tool we have, and with it the oil and gas companies won't be leasing land for $200.00 in areas they should pay much more.
Twin Cities is to be commended if in fact they did that. I have never heard of anyone saying here let me pay you four times the agreed amount. I'm also certain the folks on the other end were very happy. at the time.
I wonder if any of the augmentation was to offset the $1 an acre money the city got a few years back? Certainly would shine a good light on the "unnamed" O&G company concerning future activity with the city and the zoneing issues sure to follow.
Its the snake! I've enjoyed your posts on other threads. Just a little bit of good will from one of these companies would go a long way. I know people who signed what appeared to be a good contract the week before the news broke in march. I find it hard to believe somebody just tripped over the shale one day and said "hear it is!" On a side note, Id say that if you still own your mineral rights, chances are its because you were never approached about leasing them before march. Consider yourself lucky. So lets all keep our buisness to ourselves at work and show alitte grace. Everybody is on cloud nine after they sign till they find out what there neighbors got.
Hello Amy , You have touched upon the most difficult aspect that I have faced while talking to my community and this one as well. The people around me , for the most part, are totally unaware of how this play is working out. They are deathly afraid of the O&G's pulling out and leaving them high and dry. What they dont understand is that in a shale formation you arent looking for pocket gas. It is the formation itself that they are forcing the gas to come up from.

Because they haven't heard from the O&G's , while their neighbors have, they feel fortunate when they are contacted and the offer is much better then the early settlers received. Thats a no brainer for them in their eyes! Neighbors got $1200 , they just got $12,000.Still only to feel muffed weeks later when the offers have gone up again.

Dont get me wrong $12,000 an acre is 10 times what an acre was worth around here 2 years ago. Thats a lot more cash money then a lot of people in my community have ever held in their hands before at one time.We are truely blessed to be in this position. I just feel we should do the best with this situation that we can.We will ,for the most part , never again have the opportunity to lease again.O&g's cant afford to keep re-leasing people that they can HBP.You do not get to where they are by being stupid.Nor do you capitalize to the maximum, our part in this play by being in a hurry or doing something stupid. We must inform ourselves and understand that this isnt going away or that if it does , we were ok before it got here and will be ok after it is gone.If this isnt the case for someone then they certainly need to contact the O&G's and hand over what could have been life changing for a new pickup and some siding for the house. Thanks for your post Amy and have a great day.
