FXEF....your thinking bad casing from the first HA well? Would that also be a cause for high pressure on the problem well (#2 HA) from today? I believe this newer well just began to drill, not sure they would have set casing yet.

I thinking bad or improperly set casing on anyone of the wells could be a problem. All surface locations are a stones throw of one another. I am a rookie here, but is it not possible that the casing from the vertical CV, that has been shut in, is leaking and causing higher than normal pressure on the well now being drilled?

I think the only one to know all the details is the operator, and they are not talking for legal reasons.

Thanks for the information. One of the landowners here is a friend of mine, and like you said, the operator isn't talking. I was just curious to see what others think may have happened. Further, if there is a term for "less than rookie", it would surely describe my knowledge of drilling gas wells. My experience in the NG business is entirely distribution related.

Wow. Someone should patent this. Instant hot water at the faucet. And the ability to grill a steak over the sink.

Seriously though, this is not good. I am as enviromentally conscious as the next guy but...this is not going to further the cause of "drill, baby, drill" for Ngas and it's potential to get us to energy independence.

I'd rather not taste Ngas in my water. As it is our well water is undrinkable I don't need it to be flamable.

No one is more pro drilling than myself and most of the members on this site, nevertheless, bad publicity is our worst enemy. It's a shame to see a competent operator such as EXCO commit such an irresponsible act over somthing as fundamental as a casing issue.

I only bought that issue for the article. It comes from www.blueridgepress.com (an environmental website based in Maine. It is sent out free to all newspapers, but only the Inquisitor reprinted it. Trinidad/Chk drilled two wells (#240068 & #240427) which will affect my properties. No current info being reported on either well, i.e., current market conditions holding things back. However, I want to say we had no problems and very little disruption of everyday life as far as Trinidad/Chk's HS activities in the area. No fracing, no pipe yet, but HBP was the major factor here.

In the early life of this play Camterra, JW, etc. were running around like crazy out around this area drilling holes as fast as they could when insider information was at a premium. One day these companies would be at one site, and a few short weeks later they were ripping into another area around the next curve. ??? as to the safety and level of expertise of drilling the HS were being voiced by many early GoHaynesvilleShalers... Thanks to Keith and his HS information creation highway the LA Office of Conservation woke up on the "HS gold rush bus" and realized that it had to move out from the back of the "bus" (snoozing along) to the front of the "bus" if the LOC was going to get any clue as to what the $#% was going on in NW LA. Today, the O&Gs are still getting around "redefinition" by tweaking their applications to read "define," (S# 238527) and "except to the extent contrary..." (Cedar Grove field applications) and adding "downhole combos" to many apps.

Perhaps getting EVERY well labled a "HS" well (aka "redefine") has had its most important impact felt already, i.e. "1992 (LA) law that was designed to stimulate directional drilling and other methods of extracting oil/gas from abandoned wells. The law grants a two-year exemption from paying severance taxes, so the major production from Haynesville wells is TAX EXEMPT." (The Shreveport Times/Mike Hasten/April 15, 2010) And so it goes...

HOWEVER...HSM...Our well water IS drinkable and I and my neighbors in Southwest Caddo parish want it to remain that way. We want to see safety and sound practices exhibited "well" before sites are "improperly set with (bad) casing..." Come on, this stuff is completely avoidable and has to be stopped. Water and the air we breathe are not bargaining chips. We can and must have BOTH protected and drilling done only when these O&Gs get their heads out of their "profit" holes and into "protecting" their "holes" at the drill site! In the larger picture...Safety and Sound Business Pratices ALWAYS win the race. Well, unless you're a...bank, brokerage house, mortgage company... Well you get my point. It won't be pretty if we end up needing a massive water and air "bailout" in ten years. LOC...Wake up and let's get this one fixed! Set the bar HIGHER! and demand these companies meet or exceed our expectations! If we make reparations rough to swallow these "improperly set/bad casing," etc, etc nonsense will stop. No wants to look back and say those infamous words (again), "Hindsight is 20/20." Let's do it, but do it right!
