A friend came by today and I was telling him about the Mainland Resources well in Mississippi. He lives in Concordia Parish and was telling me about a well drilled close to where he lives back in the 80s, he said the rig was supposed to be the second biggest in the world and that they stayed on location for 2 years. He said that everything was a hush hush kind of deal that no one in the area could find out about it. I found the well on Sonris and it was permitted for the Cotton Valley and drilled to 25,000 feet. The serial number is 188719 and its location is about 20 miles West on Natchez MS. After drilling  in 1986 the well was stacked on this well site. There are 4 or 5 different kinds of well logs for the well on Sonris. Just wondering if any of yall here on GHS, along with me, would want one of our resident Geologists to tell us what the log says. Did they hit the Haynesville Shale or some other formation that may be productive at these deeper depths.

Definitely an oddball. Lots of the data is weird looking, like 7 different casing sizes, including 42, 20, 30, 14. Inches???

That was a mighty hot potato. My friend said that the last thing that the local newspaper wrote about the well was that it was a tight hole.
What pray tell is a "tight hole"??

also, what was the outcome of the well?
.
'tight hole" is when a company closely safeguards well data
It doesn't show any production figures and it was P&A in 1986. This was the time everything went to crap in the O&G biz. Seems the bit got stuck several times trying to bore through what I interpret to be shale, thats why I asked for a geologists opinion on the log. They do have one log called a physical log that looks more user friendly to a non science major.
Thanks Jay.
Are there really 42 inch bores used on this well? or does "4200" wellbore size mean something else?

That's like the size you get when you dig a well with a shovel.
I was thinking the same thing. They must have expected to meet the Kraken down hole.
haha epic. Wish I could meet a Kraken.
Better have Medusa's head when looking for the Kraken.
Now there's a good E&P name, TD,P. Medusa Energy. Or Medusa Exploration and Production, Inc. LOL!
Medusa Frac Jobs, L.L.C., we can crack anything, without the use of fluids. The bigger they are the harder they fall. We use "Snake Head Technology" guaranteed to work on monster projects.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
