I suspect that there are a lot of forces that would love to have gas shortages and rationing.
The tree huggers would love to have a crisis to push their agenda. (Note, I said "tree-huggers," not legitimate environmentalists.)
Lots of people in the government would love the additional degree of control that rationing would give them. Both for the sheer political power it would give them, and for the "legitimate" power it would give them to steer energy policy. I hope they realize that if rationing happens, the public is going to throw them out of office no matter what the cause.
I'm sure lots of folks in the alternate energy business would love for there to be a crisis and rationing as well. Or mainstream energy companies, especially foreign ones.
In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of) nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
