This ought to speed up consumer demand for CNG fueled autos, huh?

I suspect that there are a lot of forces that would love to have gas shortages and rationing.

The tree huggers would love to have a crisis to push their agenda.  (Note, I said "tree-huggers," not legitimate environmentalists.)

Lots of people in the government would love the additional degree of control that rationing would give them.  Both for the sheer political power it would give them, and for the "legitimate" power it would give them to steer energy policy.  I hope they realize that if rationing happens, the public is going to throw them out of office no matter what the cause.

I'm sure lots of folks in the alternate energy business would love for there to be a crisis and rationing as well.  Or mainstream energy companies, especially foreign ones.
