I had a wildcatter tell me that Evangeline parish is not highly thought of in the exploration of oil or natural gas because of it's geology. In correlation with the Austin chalk and the Tuscaloosa shale how does evangeline parish's geology factor into this and what exactly is the reasoning behind a statement like this? Is it because of the depth of the shale formations or the composition or the resistivities? Can someone give an explanation about this subject? It seems to me that evangeline parish is in the fairway of both the Austin chalk and Tuscaloosa plays.

Hydrocarbonite,
Have you leased already?
No, no offers yet. 2-dogs told me to b patient for year or so.. Drilling TMS needs to prove successful before moving south....
Anyone hear rumor of 3D shoot across central Louisiana ? Think the company name ION ,?

Haven't heard that one but haven't had my ear  too close to the ground on seismic because of all the BS on the folks out there trying to buy those BS oil and gas leases on the cheapo for 50 bucks for seismic with option to lease for $150. All the folks that have contacted me regarding this deal for consultation, I have told to pass on it.

Note that a company wanting to shoot will offer you a deal for whatever $10 to $35 per acre but the document will say Seismic Permit and it will not have option language to be able to lease your minerals. Do make a deal with the real seismic folks but stay clear of the BS seismic lease option ones. That is just my opinion and I am not an attorney, just a Landman that was born and raised here in central Louisians along with my Great-Great- Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Grandfather and Father. My family dates back to probably the early 1830's here in Cenla.

I haven't heard anything. What is the 3 d shoot for. Is that for geological or seismic testing.
Yes
As always Tom , I appreciate and respect your input/information... Thx for being so active and enlightening the lay people as myself and so many others in this process of deal making with O&G companies...

seems as thought some really great things are happening in NW st landry parish... hopefully the push will continue to move west across evangeline... vernon and rapides showing promise also.. as well as avoyelles ....

Two Dogs - you may be right about the $150 vs $175.  Like I said; I did not own the property then, but was very close to the owner, and thought it was $175, also this was a fairly large tract.  I do know that it was 3/16ths.  I also believe it was prior to '97 (I could go back and check my abstract).  I do know that some family members did recieve $175 a few miles to the NE (Lone Pine area).  As for the Crowells; I heard (rumor only) that they received 1/3 with little or no bonus.

Well buddy, I am pretty optimistic about everything. The Bakken had an estimated potential of 2 billion barrels when they first started exploring. It is probably going to be 3-4 times that amount when it is all said and done. If the tms has an estimated 7 billion barrels which is just on the precipous of exploration what would your thoughts be about the future. Our great state of Louisiana will be the envy of the union because of the business that will boom from this play and the haynesville, the austin chalk and the brown dense. I think all in all, if the state government figures out a way to not interfere with the free market that they created(finally by the way) and if the federal government gets less restrictive on the fracking issues then we louisianaians, have a tremendous future. As far as the EPA reports, I think there is some substance for caution but that goes with everything. Anytime there is something promising with technology, a common ground must be compromised to benefit the entire population. I feel at the end of the day, both the state and federal governments will have to give in to the technological advances so we can get back to the basics and get people back to work and start living that American dream so many people long for in this country.
