Some friends of mine received an offer to buy their minerals in St. Helena Parish this week. Offer was made by Chauvin Oil & Gas.
They are not interested in selling their minerals, but are curious about Chauvin. Does anyone know anything about Chauvin? Are they principals or agents, and if agents, for whom?
Any information appreciated.
I'm not familiar with the company, J. B. They are registered with the Secretary of State. They're probably a broker.

Thank You, Skip.
I have advised my friends to try and find out what is being offered -- without making any commitment to sell. It would be nice info to have when/if they enter lease negotiations.
I figure on a worst-case basis, Chauvin could hardly be any lower than Cobra. ;-)
The offer to purchase will have no relevance in the negotiations for lease terms. Those companies that make purchase offers without specifying an amount have performed little due diligence and are merely fishing for interested sellers with whom they can negotiate. The operator or land company doing the leasing on their behalf won't be impressed and won't adjust an offer based on any purchase offer whether that offer comes from Cobra or Chauvin.

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
