sesport,

If you chose to narrow in on one single action to decide a person's character they will always come up short.

And just because someone disagrees with a particular choice does not mean that person is not a hero.

Lots of true heroes go unrecognized. And some people chose to pick apart the minute details of genuine heroes in order to support their own viewpoint.
Yes, parker, some do pick it apart. Which is what the majority of this discussion has become, not that one should be denied the right to express their view. My point in general is for people to stop and think before casting their stones. To dig deeper & deeper, always asking the next question.

Personally, I'll go with "man of good character." I've been digging around a long time on this. Best - sesport :0)
I'm digging ... here's one. Shows Louisiana is requesting stimulus for a little over 400 projects ... for streets & roads, airports, etc. I see 2 projects for ng filling stations ... and NO funding requests for education.

Best - sesport, still digging :0)
There are schools in Louisiana that are barely standing, recovery districts, failing schools that are taken over by the state, and no requests for education? That is just infuriating!

If you have to spend all this dadgum money, that we don't have to begin with, at least allocate some of it for education, duh!

Who started this thread to get everyone stirred up?

Oh yeah, Dorcheated!

I bet he's fishing right now! LOL
Taylor - Oh, they've got money... the IRS took a big chunk of the LA citizens' paychecks, LA citizens pay fed tax on their gas & cars, we pay fed taxes on our utilities. I just wonder why, after looking at that list, the state has asked for some of the stimulus money to put toward education. Now I'm going to have to go look up Bobby J. and see what his explanation is, bless his heart. :0)
typo correction ... why ... the state HASN'T asked
You have got to be kidding !!!!! Did you write this to see what the reactions would be? Obama is paying back all of the companies and labour unions that put him in office. Please don't believe all of the propaganda that the news media is putting out. We are in for a rough ride.
Do as our ancestors did, bury your money in a mason jar in the back yard. LOL!
Community Investment Act. I was that other great Democrat President Jimmy Carter that foised that one on us. GW Bush tried to put the breaks on it but Barney Frank & Chris Dodd torpedoed that effort in 2005
Too deep for this red neck. I do see that every time thast big eared President speaks the stock market goes down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Robert,

I don't believe in the semantics of how the Community reinvestment act was administered.

But in general, tax breaks and incentives for home ownership are one of the best investments that our government can make.

Home ownership is the foundation for "good" neighborhoods and quality of life issues.

I don't profess to be an expert of any sort, but I do believe that home ownership can be the anchor that can keep families from floating a drift.

So many families are now in the boat (pun intended) that is sinking because of being feed a bill of goods from Mortgage companies that just wanted to make a little extra on what could have been a good deal for the borrower and the lender. They were told not to worry if rates go up a little you can just refinance to a fixed rate at that point. Your house will be worth more, you'll be making more money, on and on and on.

We these people irresponsible. Yes. But no more so than when you visit someone who is supposed to be a professional who is believed to be an expert. We can't all be experts in every area of our lives. So most of these people trusted the Mortgage experts.

WHY DID THESE PEOPLE TRUST THE MORTGAGE EXPERTS?

THEY SIMPLY WANTED TO BE PART OF THE AMERICAN DREAM.

DOES THAT SOUND EVIL?

Blame the people who set up the game that these people got trapped in. Don't blame the poor folks that are struggling paycheck to paycheck and had the audacity to want to own their own home.

Look at programs like Habitat for Humanity and see just how well they work. Go ask the people who live in "little Texas" (the neighborhood just North of the corner of E. Kings and Youree). Ask them how many "crack" houses there were there before Habitat increased home ownership in that neighborhood.

Just because you have the ingredients for a fulfilled life don't blame those that want the same thing for messing up the system. You just happen to be lucky that things worked out for you. You may not have started out on the bottom wrung of the latter where many people have.

Why not count your blessings instead of throwing stones.
The simple fact is that MANY PEOPLE SHOULD NOT OWN A HOME! They CANNOT AFFORD IT! They bought homes and signed papers that they could not afford. The disclosure form puts in black and white what the payments will be and for ARM's, what is the highest they could be. Again, these folks can't pay the bills.

Now, why not move them in to rental properties? But no, do not reduce their mortgage balance. Reduce the rate if you like or add years to the loan, but don't reduce the rate. These cram downs will cause all of us to pay.

But if this is what you want, then a lot of folks who are paying the mortgages are just going to quit paying them. Why pay your bill when its going to be fixed later by Uncle Sam?

The American Dream of owning a home is that, a dream, it is not a right!
I am with ya when you're right Mmmarkk!!
