Trying to get a feel for the discussion format that fits the purposes of this site. The old one brought the most current discussion to the top, so when a discussion got heated and had alot of responses, it was on full display. The new category gives it by category topic. This way if someone wants to go have a politcal banter, they go to the proper category and it remains in that category. Here's the deal - I need to know what you all want. I know there was some initial distaste for the new format, but please, give it a week and then decide. Let me know what you think...now and then a week from now. If a strong majority would like to keep the old format - I'll gladly do it.

See if you can find one for the Love Boat. LOL
I vote old format but thanks for trying to improve.
Maybe leave it like it is now but put a tab to the old style format. That way someone new looking for information on various topics would see that first on the home page. I like the old style best but wouldn't mind if had to click a tab to get to it. Maybe a tab called today's discussions or something.
I vote the old format. I'm having a hard time with this new format.
Is there a way that you could show the messages in the discussions that are new since the members last visit?
Keith,
If your intent is to ban political banter, then the new format will be a smashing success. If you wouldnt have switched back to the old format this evening, I am afraid I wouldnt have found this discussion, much less any political headhunting that may or may not be going on. As I seem to remember, there was a rule in place that attempted to keep political discussions in their own group. I recall several times where the site guru (aka Keith/"H" ) had to put the law down on peeps that didnt concure with your notion.

I believe it went something like this......Discussion Closed. Please keep political discussions in the political discussions group. Thank you. Keith, "site creator/administrator".

Yet I feel that this isnt about politics as much as it is about keeping the rhetoric down to a scream. Without these political discussions, would the site truly show "Everything Concerning the Haynesville Shale". I deplore much of the political discuss enough to rarely even comment, because of the friendships that have been strained or lost due to the content and or context of the discussions. But if anyone feels that the political nature of this play isnt as much or more important then whether or not some jake legged independant operator can go horizontal with the directions written on the ceiling above their bed. It just makes me wonder.

For if this political/economic climate moves several degrees the wrong way, it could disrupt this whole play. It wont matter how much we talk about E&P and all the wonderful attributes of the hydrocarbons that are locked tight in this Haynesville Shale. Or how much gamma radiation it took to turn David Banner into the Incredible Hulk.

Prior to the political flare ups, the then current main stay was the Greedy Ignorant Landowners vs. the Thieving Misleading Lanmans'. Does that really need to be rehashed again ? Probably not but you can bet your boots that when leasing picks up again, which it will in due time, those old wounds are gonna be exposed again. All this kumbaya stuff will be out the window again when true intent is placed on the front burner and purposes revealed. Its human nature. We are in the eye of the storm right now. If things are too rocky , one might be better served by standing on the pier.

You have done a tremendous job with this group of vagabonds that pass through your site on a daily , weekly and even monthly basis. I am sure that you will continue to do so, along with all of the help from new moderators. This is a huge task. One that will indeed pay great rewards for those in place, that dilligently seek out the best manner in which to keep their heads above water, in this play.

Divisiveness has absolutely nothing to do with relevance , unless this is Mr. Rogers neighborhood or a taping of a Barney movie. The vulgarity that sticks its head up on occassion has no place. But then again that is a violation of site policy. A good rule already in place. We just have to be reminded from time to time that we are civilived human beings. Well some of you guys are, anyway. (LOL)

Whatever you decide to do, I will try to adhere and or adapt. Preserving the sites original intent must supercede superficial wounds that will continue to appear on the heads of many, including myself, that decide to take time expressing oneself on this forum. I personally feel that making the site more difficult to navigate may only feed the hostility of some. I am sure that isnt your intent but it may be an unavoidable byproduct.
Have a good one and God Bless you for giving us all an avenue by which we can learn. The Oil & Gas stuff isnt bad either. :-)
here here, well said
Keith,

I like the old format as well, but can deal with either (once I get the hang of it). It does seem to be much more time consuming.

Politics in the political section would be a great start.

I bet when you started GHS, you never figured you would be in charge of 9,999 +/- adults who sometimes behave like children (myself included).

Give us all a time out and remind us that we need to behave like adults.

If you keep the new format, can you work on making it faster to navigate.

As always, just want to let you know how much I appreciate GHS and you.
Even a paypal account so that we could show our appreciation would be nice.
I liked the old format Keith.
Good idea.
Keith,
I vote with Skip.... I prefer the old way, but if you can figure out a way, please keep the political, social, and current events discussions on a different page. Thanks for all of your hard work.
