The company that contacted me was Global Geophysical Service out of Bossier City. Sorry, I didn't think at the time to find out who is paying to shooting this 3-D . Funny thing its called the Elm Grove 3-D. They want permission for all family land in 9W,..... 14, 15, 21, & 22 so they must be headed east with this survey.
Received a letter in mail today regarding same. It was titled Elm Grove 3D, Permit 1226, offered $15.00/acre. Sec 16, T16N, R9W. From Global Geophysical. Not a lot of $$ to us, but not sure what rights we may be signing away by agreeing via their form.

Not really sure how to respond. They did state "pronto" as well.
Agreed, KB. And then J Hilton tell them you are willing to sign right now for $30/acre. Consider accepting any counter offer that is $25 or greater. The current benchmark rate appears to be $25.
Thanks. Should I have attorney review the document they want me to sign? I am not qualified to interpret.

They state the Vibroseis or Shot hole method is to be used. ??? They also state that the permit will include surface or mineral interests I own within this seismic survey..... This isn't giving away my mineral rights is it?

You guys are so great with your help.
I received my letter from Global Geophysical Services on June 10 for the Elm Grove 3D shoot. The permit agent is Deryl McKenzie who said that the shoot is currently over 376 square miles and is growing more and more everyday. He also said that they are looking for a particular "vein" in the area called the "Haynesville" and they wanted to know if it is possible that it may exist near my property. I did let him know that it was the Shale and that it was pretty much common knowledge that it existed her in N. DeSoto Parish.

I asked him which company the shoot was for and he said that he did not know, and that he never even thought to ask when he was given the assignment. But he said that he was pretty sure it was NOT for Chesapeake or Encana when I asked if it was for either of those companies. I asked if it was only a "spec" shoot and he said that he did not think it was only for spec purposes but that he did not know for sure either way.

When I told him I had some reservations about signing, he immediately said that their first offer of $15.00 per acre would be increased to $25.00 with no problem. I told him that the money offer was not my main concern and that I had leased to Chesapeake and I would need to speak with Chesapeake about it. Mr. McKenzie said that his company handles all of that. He also said that I could type up any additional damage provisions and that he would review it.

I asked Mr. McKenzie if they were just going to use vibroseis or shot hole method. He said that they really insist on the shot hole method for any property larger than 10 acres and that their dynamite charge was only 4 lbs of explosives and did not do much damage. When I said that I would be uncomfortable with the dynamite and stuff, he said that if I did not grant permission, that any information that is gathered concerning my property would have to be "blacked out" and not transferred to anyone after the shoot is completed.

I did call the Chesapeake Corporate office in Oklahoma and was told that I did the right thing by calling and that I should never agree to any seismic testing without getting Chesapeake's approval first. That someone would be back in touch with me.

I am supposed to meet with Mr. McKenzie soon, he has already been to most of my neighbors' homes already and wants to show me a map that he has of the shoot area. He said that the shoot would begin in about 2 months.
Thanks for the update. The property they want to test has a lease on it that my parents signed 5 years ago. XTO is now who we deal with. We received a tiny tiny check last month so the lease is still active. I will call XTO as well. Never thought of that. Thanks.

Janet
Janet,

I would not have known to call the Lessee (Chesapeake) if one of the professionals on this site had not typed it. LOL

I will be happy to let you know anything else I find out. I don't mind letting them get their information, they can even have it for free if they would not come onto my property.
Those landowners who observe and do their homework should be rewarded. The tenured (LOL!) industry members on the site get no greater satisfaction than when they see a landowner use what they have learned to their benefit. Or pass on accurate answers and informed suggestions to other landowners. We can never thank Keith sufficiently for the reference source that he has created.
I received a letter this week regarding testing in Sec. 33 T16N 9W. My letter also states. "This permit shall include any surface or mineral interests you own within this seismic survey, including but not limited to, the surface interests decsribed above." Isn't this signing over my mineral interest to them? Please reply PRONTO...LOL. Thanks
I talked to the landman again and it is like the Seismic Exchange not for any one company. I am leaning toward signing for 25.00 per and with the clause for any damage. May help to get more company's looking in this area especially further east in 9W and the west part of 8W.
Skin
Skin, Seismic Exchange shot 8W last fall. We are still in the waiting game.
We have had several seismic surveys over the years, even thumper trucks , just not the newer 3-D. .
I am not leased, so that's not a factor. Only one company has really tried to lease in 9W , I guess everyone else is tied up in other areas. Some sections have CV , Hosston and Rodessa wells and are HBP.
I grow peanuts on the farm and don't need any more, so I see this as a advertisement of the area to other operator's.
I know this may never happen, its sure beats waiting and hoping the big bird will soar.
