There are numerous formations producing in Claiborne Parish. The Cotton Valley series containing: Bodcaw, Vaughn, Davis, Taylor, and others. Also the Hill zone in the Rodessa formation and the James Limestone, The Sligo, Pettet, Hoston, and the Smackover. Also the Nacatoch and Tokio sands in the Homer field.
Is the Haynesville Sand part of the Smackover? I know Petro Chem has brought in some very nice wells in S18 T23N R6W,and Live Oak has some really nice wells in that area.I wonder why all of that area is not under lease.I know it is no HS,but they are producing approx 150 BCD and 2500 MCF.
There is no doubt that the Bossier Shale formation is in Claiborne Parish. I have well logs from several wells on the East side of the Parish that shows the Bossier Shale. In some places it is thick. It also shows a fairly high resistivity which indicates the presence of oil or gas.
So, I believe that we will get a good play out of the shale in Claiborne sometime in the future.
I am not sure that the formation exists or is as thick on the West side. I have no well logs in this area.
Hello gtbay, if I may ask a question, what deptht was the bossier show in Claiborne.
On the East side of the Parish, the Bossier shale lies from around 9420 to 9800. I do not know for sure what the depth is on the western side or even the central portion of the Parish. The only well logs that I have are on the east side. But I am almost positive that the entire Parish is underlain by the Bossier shale. How productive it may be is another question. There is a portion of the shale on my logs that has an increased resistivity which indicates the presence of hydrocarbons. But only about 40 feet shows this.
Thanks gtbay.
Here is a Log from the western side of the parish.
