We have all heard people say they would go to Europe, buy a new car, buy a new house, etc. But if you hit it "big" what would you do "GOOD"? I don't mean the aforementioned trivial but fun items. I am asking about ideas that folks have that would impact others not just yourself or your family. Also not the usual non-profits. If you were going to establish one, what would it be. If your life would change so significantly. Wouldn't you want to do something significant with your life?

I'm so old I remember when my dad brought home our first TV set and a few years later there was a show called The Millionaire that really held my attention. That must have been sometime in the 1950's but I still remember many of the storylines.

John Beresford Tipton was my hero when everyone else was watching Rin Tin Tin! LOL!!
I too remember The Millionaire...& was inspired. I also agree with Wanda's post--I would see to family's needs after my own. Love others as you love yourselves...loving others doesn't mean much if we don't take care of ourselves.
I want to start my own little group for single parents who have had a hard time making it in life because of the complications of what our state does not do, and I know for a fact there are those out there who gets no help even when they have asked and even begged for the state to help them because of all the piles and piles and piles of paperwork that has to be shuffled around just to get an answer, then to just get a denial for help. And in this I will be the one deciding on whom gets the help and not the state. I am sure it want be nothing huge, but I do know that it would be enough help for that single mom or that single dad to feel like their human again, and just for once they can breathe for a little while. And in turn with myself and these parents we could grow into something stronger than a small group and become a GIANT!!!!
PARKER-

We have decided, when and if we get a portion of all that God has stored beneath the surface of the land that we own, a VERY,VERY large portion will be placed back into His service for all mankind. After all, it is His to begin with! And He will get His first fruits. The rest will go only to our family as needed to cover
our basic needs, which are few. Our hearts desire is to see souls, souls, souls saved and the needs met of His children. Foreign missions, prison ministries and natural disaster victims need help from the Christian community, not the government! We pray to be a small part in filling that void.
Nancy,

I'm new to this site...just joined last night. I have read all of the postings and replies to this discussion but what you said really touched me.

Others have said...in one way or another...that everything we have belongs to God. I believe we are only stewards of the bounty He has blessed us with. I also believe that as Christians, we are here for one purpose and one purpose only and that is to "lay up treasures in Heaven". I also believe the only "treasures" we will have in Heaven will be the souls that have been saved because of our witnesss and the crowns and rewards we have been given for our service to God.

We haven't leased our land yet because the lease is not due until sometime in November. Whatever God blesses us with at that time we will truly be thankful to Him for it and hope to be able to give generously to "His service for all mankind" as you have so well said.

Thanks again for your reply.
Hey Rose I love that scripture... did you know the eye of a needle is a small gate in the wall of Jerusalem... it was there for the late comers the large gates would be closed at night for safety and they would leave the small gate open for people to get in but a camel could not get through unless everything was taken off of him and he got on his knees and crawled through the gate. I see that verse this way... unless your willing to give up what is holding you back you will never be able to enter the gate. Cool huh :)
Yall are just such a blessing :) Just reading these post is so awesome. I won't get rich off this because I don't have but 3.5 ac but I totally agree with what yall are saying and I will follow your example. Thanks
If I am Blessed from this Hayesville Shale,I will help my two wonderfull kids first, who are grown, but have had a hard life,They have worked hard since they were able to work, and I raised them by my self, and they are still working hard. Then I would give to my beautiful two granddaughters. And my Pride and Joy,My Great Granddaughter,I would make sure she would be well taken care of.My sister, who is in very bad health would be taken care of.But most of all,I would make sure that this wonderfull man of mine of 29yrs,would be taken care of.My family is my world.I would not be here today if it weren't for them.I thank God everyday for them.
Wanda,

Family is all that really matters, isn't it?
I would help our local humane society. Its a great group with very limited funds.
if i were to get a BUNCH of dough, which i wont be, i would use a portion to lobby to help children and adults with problems like autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, sensory processing disorder or any other developmental disorders, the help and insurance coverage they need to get the interventions/assistance they need to have as productive lives. also use some of the money to help educate people on how to treat those who arent "wired" the same. tax money gets spent teaching people tolerance of so many other things, why not help teach people to be more tolerant to those who werent born with the same advantages, but are just as smart as they are. but thats just me. and since i only own .36 of an acre, i will just settle for new floors instead of that dingy nasty carpet that was in this house when we bought it. i will donate a couple hundred dollars to some causes i find important to me. the nwla food pantry and the american cancer society-which i am somewhat active with. and to the person who started this thread, props to you for challenging the "shalers" to think about doing some good with this money in this time of prosperity and not just what they can do for themselves. no matter how big or how small, as a team a difference can be made. yeah that sounds corny but true!
I would become an advocate for the elderly and establish an organization to help raise awareness about elderly abuse and neglect. I watch the new daily and hear about some horrible stories about our elderly citizens when the truth is; our senior citizens are vital to the growth and knowledge of our youths today and if only people would listen and respect them we would have less problems with reports of abuse.

Stepping off my soap box.
