If you think we are in a mess now, what do you think is going to happen when people start defaulting on their non-secured debt? If you think some corporations are over-leveraged, what about the average American? If people have stopped paying their Mortgages, how many people are going to stop paying their credit cards?

Don't you also think that the "bankruptcy thing" has been encouraged by the lawyers advertising on TV that they can help people get out of debt, avoid foreclosure, and keep their cars? You're right, bankruptcy in the past was something to be ashamed of having done. I don't know ... somewhere along the line common sense seems to have gotten lost, both for corporate CEO's and the working class. Next reality show that needs to come out needs to be "Survivor: Economic Realignment - Reality Check."
Sesport,

Yes, the advertising makes it all look too easy.

Another big problem is that if you have a problem, you are penalized for doing the right thing. Ask anyone who has worked in the mortgage industry. Two years out of bankruptcy you are clean. If you have done consumer credit counseling it is a nightmare.

Our whole system is just broken. We don't reward responsibility. Our society also no longer respects responsibility.
It is funny how we turn on each other in tough times. We have bailed out wall st., banks, war, etc., with our tax dollars but we do not have anyting for each other. If you think that the person who is unable to pay their mortgage will be bailed out, probably not going to happen.

It is only imaginary money anyway.
Jim we aggree...>Sorry sorry sorry<....You know what...they will be sorry one day!!!!
I saw that communist congress woman from California, I know that must confuse you as there are so many commie congress people from the Left Coast, but it was Zoe Lofgren on Cspan. She was saying , we can't bail out people on their mortgage and have them still go bankrupt over credit cards or second or third mortgages. She said when we come back after the elections we have fix that also, we can't just bail out Wall Street, we have to help the people also. and she said there is already legislation to do that in the pipeline. So you can stop worrying about those poor souls who that spend way above their means, WE are going to take care of them also.

Is this a great country or what.
Yes Sir, I will help keep my brother and my sisters it's everybody else that I can't take of.
Sorry about the look's kid. But you will do OK with your brain and a little hard work.
KB,
Do you want to rework the loan to keep 80,000 people from being laid off. Who in turn can't pay there mortgages who in turn file BK. It's not hard to figure why they rework loans for companies.

And good morning KB.
Your close Jim,
The banks are borrowing money from people who try save it. Then they lend it to people who can't pay it back. It's not so much the innovative thinking as it is hard working Americans over coming government.
Dorcheated thats exactly right....when the savers become a manority to the Credit junkies which will be the majority....then all of these vote hungry politicians will just start giving away our hard earned and saved money that we made sacrifices to keep to give to these people who Bought everything they wanted! Thats what is happening now....TIMES HAVE CHANGED MY BROTHER TIMES HAVE DEF CHANGED! We wanted it well guess what were about to get it!!!!! CHANGE
I heard it's so tuff out there now even dope dealers have credit departments. The only difference is they put a bullet in your head when you don't pay them back.
It amazes me when I hear folks talk about bad credit like was a disease that they unfortunately became inflicted with.
I'm not talking about those who lost jobs or had a medical crisis.
