Mercedes-Benz Begins Sale of E200 NGT BlueEFFICIENCY Bi-Fuel Natural Gas Car
Submitted by AaronT Sun 03/20/2011
In brief: The new bi-fuel natural gas E200 NGT from Mercedes-Benz is rolling out to European dealers.

Vehicle in the news
Make/Model: E200 NGT BlueEFFICIENCY

The word

The basis for the engine is the four-cylinder supercharged Kompressor engine (163hp) modified with added injectors on the underside of the intake manifold to inject natural gas. The car runs on unleaded premium gasoline or compressed natural gas (CNG).

The output and torque remain the same whether running on petrol (gasoline) or natural gas. In gasoline-only operation, the E200 gets 29mpg (combined, US) and in CNG operation it 5.5kg/100km.

Gasoline range is 454 miles and CNG range is 224 miles (19.5kg storage) - these can be combined, given the dual-fuel capability.

And so ...
A management system allows for on-the-fly switching from gasoline to natural gas, even while the vehicle is in operation and moving.

Wow, that sounds impressive.....I guess!   Any idea when it might come to the United States.
and how much does it cost?  is it a big car... mid-sized?  looked at a few photos on-line but it's hard to tell.
