Ok thanks, I keep checking the well report and the last update is 3-11-2011, so thought maybe they quit drilling. Also, is there any way to get an update on well 241012, Sabine section 4, the well was producing too much H2S and was shut down. Don' know if well is online again.

A number of members subscribe to weekly drilling reports as that is the only reliable way to have current information.  When asking for information it is helpful to have the section-township-range.  Section 4 in Sabine Parish is of little help as there are numerous Section 4's.  One in every township in the parish.  And since rig reports are not organized by the serial number assigned by the state of LA.,  the operator name and the well name make it easier and quicker to look up.

Ok, thanks, the well is 241012, swepi, Sabine section 4-t8-r12, Bayou San Miguel. I am wondering if it is producing again after being shut for H2S to high in Feb.

Bob, there's no mention of H2S in any report in the well file on SONRIS Classic (the Java-based portion of the database).  The well did change operators from EnCana to SWEPI around that time and is so noted in an Amended Permit to Drill application.  To view the full well file in this portion, use the following link:

Click "Document Access" in the left column, then "Document Type" and select "Well Permit to Drill/Amend" from the list.  Enter S/N 241012 in the search blank and check the box, "Get associated documents".

Hi, I received a letter today advising me of an application to drill an alternative well on my section, s4-8-12. There is one producing well now, so is an alternate well a new well so there will be 2 wells on the section, or does it have something to do with the producing well?

Bob,  the first well drilled in a Drilling & Production Unit is the Unit Well.  All subsequent wells are Alternate Unit Wells.  An operator may apply for approval of Alternate Unit Wells, permit, drill and complete up to the maximum number based on the size of the unit and the spacing requirements set by the state for that  particular formation or zone.  Haynesville Shale wells are drilled under 80 acre spacing requirements and most units are a governmental section, +/- 640 acres.  Therefore all units based on a section qualify for 8 Haynesville Shale wells.  All of the unit wells will produce under the same LUW (Lease/Unit/Well) code for the life of unit production and all pooled mineral interests in the unit will be paid on the production of all those wells.

Thanks Skip, looking at the diagram they sent me, it looks like the alternate well is using the same direction of the unit well, it starts and ends at the same locations of the unit well, maybe they are drilling deeper or shallower than the unit well. It just shows where the alt well is and no specifics I will check for documents in the coming weeks at Sonris.

What do you make of the Lewis Interests well above - RR Parish - #241404, which had extremely low initial production?  Does this indicate bad geology (and the likely boundary for the southern edge of this part of the play), or is this more likely due to something well-specific?  I saw another recent post of yours related low initial production of a well in another area where you said there are adjacent wells that are avg or above avg, so one well does not a whole area make...  do you have any particular insights for or thoughts about this geo area?  Thanks in advance....

If I recall correctly, the lateral in the ECA Lewis Interests well is only 2100'.  Or about 40% the normal length.  An EnCana VP made the comment in a webcast about two or so months back that the reason they were allowing 12,500 acres of leases to expire in this area of the Play was due to faulting and challenges associated with increasing depth.  I think it's likely that the frac screened out on the Lewis Interest lateral because it drilled through a fault.

If the alternate well is following he same path as the first, its most likely a "stacked lateral" either in a deeper or lower portion of the formation.  You may want someone else to confirm.

I've never run across a Haynesville Shale stacked lateral well in LA.
