Noticed that I haven't heard the noise of the rig for a few days and discovered that the rig is gone. There seems to be only one well-head instead of 2 ( one for Sec 6, another for Sec 1). I have read about the companies drilling just to keep the lease. Just wondering if anyone knows of this happening in our area.

The term, unit, has no application as to the surface location, only to the section (unit) being produced. Don't know what you are thinking of in regard to Texas but it is not germaine to this topic. If the company drilling the well has a lease allowing for surface operations where the drill site is located, they can drill their lateral anywhere they choose as long as they hold the leases and have the right to develop. If the company does not have a lease providing for surface operations, they would have to negotiate the right to use that surface location with the land owner. If the land owner did not own the minerals, it is likely that the company would also have to negotiate a well bore easement also. In the Haynesville Shale play, most sections are leased and force pooled, therefor an operator usually has the right to drill from an adjacent section in which they are the unit opertor or they get permission from the company that is the operator in that section. Occasionally I have run across well bore easements but that was more common early in the play.
I don't understand the process of drilling I guess. Why is there a rig back on 6-15-8. This well and the one down the road in section 12-15-9 have got to be the slowest wells I have seen as far as the drilling process goes.
I believe it to be a smaller rig on 6-15-8.
As for 12-15-9, I thought I had seen the frac crew there already. The gate has been locked for a few weeks now and just assumed it might be complete.

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
