STATE MINERAL LEASE AUCTION TO FEATURE NUMEROUS CENTRAL LA. TRACTS

The Office of Mineral Resources, Mineral And Energy Board will conduct the September Mineral Lease Sale tomorrow.  The tracts up for bid are located predominantly in Central LA. parishes.  There are a large number of bid tracts located in St. Landry, St. Mary, E. & W. Baton Rouge, E. & W. Felicianna and Pointe Coupee.  Though not considered Central LA., Acadia Parish also has multiple tracts.  There is one exceptional size tract of 1,380 acres that includes portions of E. & W. Baton Rouge, E. & W. Felicianna and Pointe Coupee.  I suggest that members interested in the plays underway in these parishes review the bid results and post them to GHS.  It should be an interesting auction.

Thanks for the info, Skip.  Any idea who "Hempco Resources" is?  A quick search of the Sec. of State database didn't return anything.

It is customary for large independents and majors to have a third party, usually a land company, bid on their behalf.  Sometime later an assignment will be made from the winning bidder to their client.  What we are looking for tomorrow is competition.  Tracts receiving more than one bid.

When nominating a tract it is also permisable to use a dummy name. The actual nominating party is kept confidential, but is published as the nominating party wants (within limits of course)

 

When we nominate a state lease, we will use a totally off the wall name. Of course actual bids must be in the actual biding parties name, who must be registered as a Louisiana Leaseholder in mineral Resources. But many operators will use a go-between as you point out.

That's quite funny. I suppose Woody Harrelson is involved as well. Seriously, I am glad to know that the DNR permits pseudonyms for persons nominating a tract for auction. It makes sense to allow an entity who has expended time, energy and resources developing an area and acquiring rights/ interests in private acreage the ability to remain anonymous until actual bidding occurs when a public forum is required to acquire an interest in public land. I, for one, am interested to watch and learn as the various layers of the onion are peeled back, and we get to see if others beyond Devon, Encana, Goodrich, amd Indigo have drawn a bead on the TMS.

With Hilcorp buying out BP/Amoco's Tuscaloosa properties this should get interesting for AC. EF, TMS and Tusc. through out the central Louisiana area.  I think the sale tomorrow will tell us a lot.

I would hope to see $300 to 350 or more and 25%. I think the play is quickly building.

Jay, in reviewing the results of the auction, looks like you were very close to the range, but actually a bit high.  The tracts from the Felicanas, some of which include Point Coupe and E.B.R. lands, leased for $203.54/ acre and 22.5%, at least the ones I followed. There is also a "Rentals" column indicating some additional payment due to the State, and I confess my ignorance about the specifics of what is being given and received for those funds.  A SONRIS link is:  http://sonris.com/direct.asp?server=reports&path=/reports/rwser...


It appears that Charleston Energy, Inc. was the successful bidder for the tracts I followed.  I didn't look up the bidding info to see if there were any competive bids.

You were right about the bonus and royalty. Do you know if Salmon/Charleston is buying leases for Anadarko?
I was hoping that Hilcorp would get active and start competing in this area. Hasn't happened yet though.
