No wonder Boone Pickens is pushing for natgas vehicles. Unless some other uses for natgas is found, most of Haynesville Shale likely will remain in the ground for a long time.

Try to find one article from 6 to 12 months ago that accurately predicted what the price of a barrel of oil would be today. My point is, I take such market forecasts with a grain of salt, rarely are they even close, if I remember correctly, only six months ago when NG was around $13, there were countless articles predicting it to be $18-$20 by the end of this year.
be honest, if we were not on the HS,would we really be interested in CNG as an alternate fuel ?
You bring up a great point Ray and maybe pushing CNG fuel is a little "self-serving". Butt.......If CNG is developed and we start running trucks, busses, and cars on it, won't OPEC have to be competitive? Right now, they control production and pricing because they can. They can use a little friendly competition. They might not like it but they will get used to it.
When gasoline was headed toward $5.00 a gallon, who wasnt thinking alternative fuels ?
The only reason it has subsided is the fact that gas is at $1.67 @ Wallyworld. It cant stay there long.It just makes sense to get ready for the storm that is coming!
Is there anything remotely close to being as available and viable for nationwide use like CNG ? Ethanol isnt it. Wind and Solar are still too expensive. The only reason we still use gasoline is price! We are price driven so to speak.(pun intended)
What is the cheapest, most abundant alternative source for fuel/energy right now ?
Natural Gas ! Is that because its abundant under my place ? Nope, but it sure is nice to know.
Have a good one Ray
I agre with you this time Snake. When gas prices go up again watch how many people start talking about cng. Ethanol is only used because of the huge gov't subsidies put in place to benifit farmers, and is not even very economical. I have seen estimates that it is anywhere from a net loss in enerygy to a gain of only about 1.3 btu's gained per btu of input (for corn, sugar cane is much higher as much as 8:1). That being said, ethanol is good for nat. gas prices, as large amopunts of gas are required for manufacture of the enormous amounts of fertilizer needed for corn, and to distill the ethanol itself.
Also, solor and wind are still to high per Kilowatt without the gov't subsidies in place to be even close to economical. Prices are falling fast as tech. improves, but have a long way to go.

But.....solar and wind and battery power will not power an 18 wheeler. Nat. gas will.
Maybe so but with our economy in the crapper, I see any waste as such, Waste!
Thats a huge reason why we are in this situation in the first place. We have all read the "$300 hammer" stories and know that the Government has no problem whatsoever spending somebody elses money. It just needs to stop.An all out depression may be the only thing that can curtail this spending mess.

This whole ethanol thing is a trumped up Eco war on drilling and the use of fossil fuels. I think we should do whatever we can to protect the environment. Its the only one we have. But not if it renders me penny less. If it has to boil down to my survival and what the climate may or may not be like 300 years from now, I vote for me! Hope that doesnt sound too selfish but human nature dictates that I am a survivalist. If I have good sense anyway.

Maybe one day I will write something else that you will also agree on Baron. :0)
Ethanol has a tremendous impact on the environment, but the tree huggers don't want you to know that!

Increased fertilizer use in Iowa is a possible contibutor to the record sized dead zone in the gulf.
Jim,
Most of what I know about Haynesville shale I have learned from you and others on this site. I have a financial interest in the success of Haynesville shale as do most on this site. Therefore, I support CNG, but I like your larger vision of promoting this vast, clean, stable energy to companies needing or willing to pay for a guaranteed source of energy. I think right now the politicians and Industry have so many problems that they will not stumble over this resource on their own. How can we help them find this answer?
Get a demand NG hot water heater, gas stove, gas heat, gas air conditioner, couple of gas lights to light your driveway and a CNG car.
Don't forget gas logs for the fireplace. Very cozy and no mess.
Yea I know I have been trying to light wet wood as we speak.
