The next two state mineral auctions (Aug. & Sept) include over 4200 acres of bid tracts in the following townships - 21N - 15W, 14W, 20N - 16W, 15W, 14W & 19N - 16W, 15W, 14W. The nominating companies are HEP Energy, Tacoma Energy and Strata Acquisitions. It is likely that they are all working for the same client.
Along with previous state lease tracts, the total could exceed 6100 after the Sept. auction. An unusually large acreage total for state leases. As state leases have a primary term of one year, they must be developed or the lessee must pay an additional bonus (1/2 the original) to extend for an additional year. The bid tracts are in an area that has experienced significant leasing activity for private mineral interests since before the first of the year. I suspect it will become clear in the near future as to the target and the operator behind the leasing effort.
Note: Some Bossier Parish lands are included that are along and adjacent to the Red River.

Thanks for the info, Skip, 19N 14W is just north of my property in 18N 14W.
You're welcome, Iris. I hope the prospect expands south to include your minerals.
Thanks for the link and information.
I have property in tract 42790 and was recently offered a revised lease agreement by Tacoma.
Maybe drilling activity is in the near future since they are nominating state lands.
The amount and location of the state leases would require a number of wells to HBP. I expect drilling will start in the next 60 days if not sooner. These state tracts are not the first taken in this prospect.
Skip, have you had any indication of the target or depth?......I have heard 4 different people say the same thing "big oil play just above the Haynesville" just this week..Tacoma Energy and Strata Acquisitions have been trying to lease, but they won't say for who.
Most of the leases are "all depths" but some reserve specific depths. I believe this is Anadarko with intentions to drill horizontal wells prospective for "liquids". Not oil, wet gas with associated Natural Gas Liquids (NGL). The target seems to be Haynesville but could include other formations/zones. There are some existing units in 20N -14W formed by Devon in the early days of the Haynesville Shale. That Field Order established units for the Cotton Valley, Haynesville and Smackover zones. Of course that was before the first HA wells were drilled in N Caddo. We should see the first new unit applications in the coming weeks. Then we will know for sure.
Hi Skip,
Is there any specific area that is being leased?
Thanks,
Mike, the leasing that I believe is associated with this prospect runs generally from the southern shore of Caddo Lake from Buzzards Bay to just east of the dam and then south along Hwy. 1 to just north of Blanchard and east to and slightly across the river. I have township grids indicating all the sections where leases have been taken but there is still a lot of area unaccounted for as it is Held By Production (HBP). Much of that could be included but would not have a lease filed in the Clerk of Court's records.
And a Good Lord's Day Morning to you and to All,
I had to round trip it to Dallas yesterday and just read you prompt reply. Many Thanks. I find this leasing intersting. How about an email (mikemck77@earthlink.net) with your addrss and phone. I would like to set up an appointment and come up to Texarkana and see you.
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
