Mineral owners are receiving pre-conference notice letters for SM Energy unit applications in Section 13 of 23N - 13W and Section 18 of 23N - 12W.  The unitized horizon is the Pettit Reservoir A and it appears that SME will be drilling horizontal wells targeting liquids rich gas, condensate and oil.  The leases for this prospect were taken for SME by JB Land.Services, LLC and Merit Energy Services, LLC.  The area generally covered by this lease block is the eastern two thirds of 23N - 14W to the western one third of 23N - 11W and appear at this time to include the northern half of 22N -13W through 22N - 11W.

BD,

I have property close by and have been approached about leasing deep rights and Brown Dense was also mentioned.  What are their current offers for leases in S25 and do you know who the operator is?  Any idea where SM's next well will be?

Tater, that's really all I know. A friend told me about Whiting; his friend signed with them so I didn't get any info on the lease offer or agreement. I'll see if I can find out anything. No scoop on SM's next location. Sorry.

Both SM Energy and Whiting Petroleum have been building lease blocks in your area, Whiting immediately west of the SWN Brown Dense leasehold and SM to the west of that.  At this time it appears to be two separate efforts with different target horizons, SM exploring the Pettit (leasing primarily by JB Land Services) and Whiting for the Cotton Valley down to the Brown Dense (primarily by Miller Land Professionals).

Although SM Energy has not filed for a second horizontal Pettit well permit, the logical next location would be in the other drilling unit already formed, PET RA SUB in Section 13 - 23N - 13W.

Skip, 5 tanks and production pipe on location. They're very closed mouth but was told the well is "meeting expectations".

Thanks for the update, BD.  It caused me to look at the well file.  And curiously the well has a new unit designation:  SLI RC SUA;MURRAY 18H 001.  SLI designates the unitized zone as Sligo, not Pettit.  Very interesting.  The Pettet and the Sligo are the same zone the best I can tell with Pettit/Pettet used more commonly in E TX and Sligo in LA.  Wonder why SM felt the need to change the name?

Skip, I have no idea. As I've stated, they're very tight-lipped. Question, why is there so little news/updates on Sonris re:the Murray 18H 001. Is that at SM's descretion?

Yes, reporting is at the operator's discretion.  The state does not mandate regular reports.  Eventually the state will tell SM to complete and report the well or plug & abandon it.

Although there is no Final Completion report entered in the state database, the Allowable report for the  SLI RC SUA;MURRAY 18H 001 has been posted.  The pressure, both casing and flowing, are reported as 10 and the well is shown to be on pump.

JB Land Services assigned 44 leases in N Caddo and N Bossier to SM Energy in an instrument recorded in the public record 9/16/2013.

Skip:

Do you know the STR's in Bossier Parish these were taken?

The Exhibit A to the assignment does not list the leases by S-T-R.  The lessor names are listed.  If you would like me to check for a specific name, I will do so.  You can post it in this open thread or post in the private comments on my page however you must be a friend to do so.

Thanks Skip.  Don't have any names.  Just wondering if anything in T23N - R12W.
