Mark Shenk from Bloomberg estimated we hold this title for 20 years. Your guess?
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been overtaken by the US as the world's largest oil producer.
A report by the Bank of America said that the extraction of oil from shale rocks by the US reached a high this year.
This year, crude oil output and the production of liquids separated from natural gas in the US exceeded the production in both Saudi Arabia and Russia. The daily output in the US exceeded 11 million barrels in the first half of this year and is expected to rise to 13.1 million barrels a day in 2019. The report said production will remain at the same level for at least 10 years.
"The US increase in supply is a very meaningful chunk of oil," said Francisco Blanch, head of commodities research, Bank of America. "The shale boom is playing a key role in the US recovery. If the US didn't have this energy supply, prices at the pump would be completely unaffordable," he said.
Oil extraction is increasing at shale formations in Texas and North Dakota as companies continue to extract shale oil through fracking.
"The shale production story is bigger than Iraqi production, but it hasn't made the impact on prices you would expect… Typically such a large energy supply growth should bring prices lower, but in fact we're not seeing that because the whole geopolitical situation outside the US is dreadful," said Blanch.
He said this in reference to the activities of a group called the ‘Islamic State’ which has taken over several territories in northern Iraq, raising concerns about Iraq’s oil production.

You would have to assume that we are not going to make any additions to the fields in play now in order to put an estimate on 'how long'. That is buying into the finite thinking of the doomsayers of the energy world, isn't it?
I don't see exploration slowing down now that the key has been found for unlocking shale oil. I can remember when operators were drilling vertical shale oil wells in Colorado & Wyoming in the mid-'70s. That started during the OPEC embargo. It only took 40 years to figure out how to make them produce. I imagine there will be lots of old conventional fields which will get a new examination. I'm old enough that I doubt I will ever see us fall off the top spot.
An aside... it makes me really mad that so called journalists are already starting to call those terrorists in Syria/Iraq by their brand new assumed name. That recognition is one thing the world should never give them. PC will kill us someday... maybe before we lose the #1 producer title.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
