When David Duke ran for governor this old Republican voted for our presently locked up ex-governor Eddie E.
Ray, can I ask you, do you consider yourself a racist?

Hi Ray:

David Duke was not embraced, supported or endorsed by the Republican Party in Louisiana. Many individual Republicans voted for Edwin Edwards, myself included, in that race.

I was on the Caddo Parish Commission at that time and introduced a resolution denouncing Duke.

My favorite bumper sticker read: "Vote for the Crook, it's important"

BTW, you have just confirmed your statue as a Jackass. Hope you will continue to wear it well.

David Duke in fact was elected to a public office--he was the Republican Louisiana state representative. Enough people from that district voted for him and that district was predominantly white republican; he received 60% of the white vote. I am sure that included democrats and independents as well. Notably, before being a republican, he was a democrat, but he couldn't win as a democrat. So, he changed parties and won.

Hello Bob,
I for one didnt know anything about Mr. Dukes involvement in the Clan , until the Edwards campaign released the photos and clips. Up until that point, I was somewhat enamored by his strange idea of a flat tax. Everybody paying their own share. If that makes one a racist, I fear the worst.

But upon learning of Mr. Dukes past, it became rather obvious to me that I couldnt support him, even tho most of his platform looked better then the fella that said that the only thing that could get him was "getting caught in bed with a dead woman or a live boy".

Maybe most of the 60% that voted Mr. Duke in to office, didnt know about his past yet either. Or they were much more afraid for their little boys.

In all fairness to anyone with a storied past, people can change. Happens every day. Whether or not Mr. Duke or Mr. Edwards can or did change is still up for grabs.I have noticed that others with some of the same pasts seem to be given the green light because of their party affiliation. Is it because he does so much good in other areas that it makes you forget the sheet over his head ? Give me a break, please!

Racism is a horrible thing that still exists,IMO, that can and will keep you from crossing the Jordan. If that is your goal, of course.
Yet using the past , to push ones agenda, by keeping innocent people from speaking out against a political statement or movement , out of fear of being accussed of racism, belittles the efforts of civil rights leaders that fought so hard for equal rights. Sorta like the gay/lesbian community likening their struggle to the civil rights movements of the 1960's.
Thinking that because someone feels strongly against the issue of Pro Choice compared to Pro Life, shouldnt be attributed to that persons "obvious racist nature or their homophobic lifestyle". That type of NON -thinking is ridiculous. And furthermore, shows why many , center of the aisle peeps are forced to lean right.

I make no apologies for my conservative moral views.
I just think its sad when someone cant come up with better ways to try and prove their points then by falling backwards and playing, or even threatening to play the race card. For those not up to speed, we have a black president. Some of us have tried to move beyond the 60's. Even tho I didnt vote for the man, it had nothing to do with his color. Liberals try to give too much of my stuff away! See how nasty that was ? If I had meant it, well I guess I did to an extent, that could be viewed as a racist comment by some mellon heads. Main thing that would keep me out of the fire on that one is the fact that I have more true, black friends then most of these "blah,blah,blah", caucasoids have true, white friends.

P.S. To whomever it may concern. If you havent had a black man or woman in your home to break bread (aint talkin about doing your chores), or are at least open to the idea, (aside from the current president/1st family) what makes any of you an authority on everyone elses racism ?
Without true substance, your self-appointed holistic speeches seem little more then cathartic banter from one who wishes to shift the focus elsewhere rather then to deal with whatever the subject matter was intended to be. Makes you seem an awful lot like a first year landman, cuttin his/her teeth on the HS.

As I said before, the modern day approach to racism is the color blind racism and the anti-racism models: simply deny it exists and obscure it from real discourse.
For anyone to deny being "racist," is silly. We all are, to a degree or another. Recognizing it, owning it, and dealing with it is what adults do. Children stay in the sandbox and throw sand at each other and whose debate skills typically are: "yes, you are"~"no, I'm not" "you are, too" "No, I'm not" etc. etc.

Thats like saying everyone is a serial killer deep down inside. Everyone is cheating on their spouses. Just admit it and move on. Even tho you dont show or have any of the obvious symptoms of "Freddie Kruger syndrome", hold your tators, its coming!

While the study that you are referencing may have been done with good intent, no matter how well it was researched, it is flawed. You can not generalize everything into a small package so you can get your hands around it. It doesnt work.

Are there racist people in this world ? Absolutely. Some white, some black, some with an olive complextion, some red and some yellow. Some that even hate the color of their own skin in regards to different religious beliefs held by others.
Are there serial killers ? Why yes there are Bob.

I happen to be neither, no matter what the near schitzophrinic model states. I am a man with a free will , that doesnt have to succomb to anything outside of what is morally right. I choose to be racist or not. I am not inherently born predisposed to hate everyone.
As a child , you need be "reared" in a manner that teaches respect for everyone. But it isnt a necessity. There are many examples of people that come out of bad situations and turn from abnormal behavior that developed, as a direct result, from their environments.

As adults, we have to make decissions every day that may or may not coincide with the environment that we were raised in. Free will and the decissions we make every day, dictate that outcome.

On the website for Ms. Trepagniers book, in their words it states that...." The collective voices and confessions of "nonracist" white women heard in this book help reveal that all individuals harbor some racist thoughts and feelings.

So, the 35 "Southern Bells" interviewed for this book, after being given truth serum or just folding under the intense pressures of the interviewer, blow their cover and give credence to this theory ?
If thats the case, only white chicks are racist deep down inside, right ?

Is Dr. T a racist as well ?
If so, why put any credit in what she says, her being a racist and all.

I will give Dr.T the benefit of the doubt. She is from Houston after all. Those cats sometimes have ulterior motives. Some also speak with forked tongue. But I will stop there. I wouldnt want to label anyone without giving them a chance to prove their own merits. That wouldnt be fair, now would it ?

As for Mr. Edwardo Bonilla-Silva, one must look at his body of work and come to their own conclussions.http://fds.duke.edu/db/Provost/clacs/faculty/silva/publications.
But as one reviewer states (Dee Zuganelli, Bi Racial ethnicity)........."The book does feel somewhat lopsided. Just over half of the book is situated to slam whites, almost unforgivably so, and certainly leaving no room for even a naive underawareness. You really hear that in his student interviews. While the qualitative content definitely fits into his argumentation, part of me really read sympathy for some of the kids trying to answer his pointed questions. He calls attention to the rhetorical moves they make -- stuttering, incomprehensibility, getting worked up, random iterations -- but I don't think many people would be calm and composed while trying to explain their views. Only a few students come off with concise statements, certainly not at a time of life in which they've had enough personal reflection. He also poses similar research questions to an older population of men and women -- certainly a little sharper in their responses but no less forgiving to his points.

I disagree that acknowledging the fact that we are all racists to some degree is the same as saying that we all are serial killers. But, I do believe that we are all racists on some level. I do not believe we are all David Dukes. It's just that it's impossible not to see differences.

there is a difference between a true-blue republican, and a hide behind the label republician.

true-blues voted for Edwards

the others came from behind the label when it was projected that Dukes would win....
you should have seen them; high stepping on the job, openly telling racist
jokes etc.......

and now I see the label republicans are back,since Obama won the election.

you notice how "republicans" sound nicer.

I know about hiding behind sheets. Democrats are most famous for that (see reference to Sen. Robert Byrd D-WVa).

Saying racists are hiding behind an affiliation with the Republican Party implies that the Republican Party condones such attitudes. It does not and never has. Recall, Ray, Abe Lincoln was a Republican. Bull Connor was a Dem.

You are, no doubt, a product of the public ed system.

I ,too, saw Earl Long give a speeh from a flat bed truck in Ruston, Louisiana in the late 1950s. I was standing where most people could not see him get out of a long, black Cadillac limo, peel off a very expensive suit and put on cover alls and straw hat to go give his speech.

I believe this was before he got to running around with the stripper and took to wearing a paper bag over his head.
