In looking over the sonris site it seems every well by Petrohawk-kcs is better in IP than the production of the best Chesapeak well. Any opinion why? Are they producing from cotton valley and haynesville? Are they better at fracing? Are they just in better spots? just wondering

thanks Jay. I am leased with chesapeake and they are drilling my well as I type. Is it possible they are kind of just producing a certain amount now and are waiting on prices to go up before opening them up. I really don't care that much, any thing I get out of it will be more than I ever expected years ago as I was raising hogs for my kids to show at the fair.It's bound to pay more than that did.LOL It just seems strange that with all the experience they have from other shale plays that their wells wouldn't be right up there with the best of them.
Jay and I have discussed this before. IP rates can be tinkered with for sure, but the HK wells almost across the board are showing higher monthly production totals than the CHK wells. XCO's and STR's wells haven't been too shabby either! We'll see what happens when CHK starts reporting IP's and monthly production totals from areas other than Keithville/Spring Ridge.
Jay, I would be interested in your opinion as to possible differences in the Quality of the Rock, as opposed to the Quality of the Completion Technique. IMO, all early wells should be discounted because of land grab, frac stages, proppant, techniques, etc. But now the land grab is over and the knowledge from completions and the Core Labs Shale Consortium is spread to the participants.

There is not a single reported 20+ mmcfd IP rate west of HW. 171. CHK says it has two at 22 mmcfd, but hasn't disclosed the well. However, STR disclosed Blount Farms yesterday as a 22 mmcfd CHK well in RR(14N, 12W.

If you look at the Porosity-Ft. graph in the SSEY presentation on the Griffith HK well in Desoto, it is off the chrts relative to the other wells.Admittedly, SSEY is selling stock or the company or its acreage.
Watch Encana's wells that are popping up in 14/14 Desoto which is along the Hwy 171 south corridor. The Burford well in Sec. 8 of 14/14 Desoto will go online soon. Rumor has it that it is a monster
w. r. frank, something is not quite right here. Why would Questar be announcing the IP on the Blount Farms 2H #1 which is a Chesapeake well?? Where did you see it announced? I guess Questar must have a working interest in the Blount Farms well. I sure would like to see the IP with my own eyes. Disregard this post....I just found the Blount well on Questar's March 24, presentation. If I knew how to delete it, I would!
w.r. frank, I'm hearing that the Crowe 2 #1 well in 14/15 is capable of a 21 million IP and it is west of 171, on the Keithville-Keatchie road.

Have you heard anything about the B & K 37 (just South of the Hamel well) #238527?
I have tried to picture in my mind that as they drill the laterals that they probably try to stay in the middle of a 200-300' zone that is 2 miles below them as they drill 4000 or so feet horizontally. Do they have a way of knowing where in the zone they are at as they drill? Is the expertise of the driller more important than anything? Sorry for all the questions but I have been lurking here for awhile try to learn about this stuff and from all I have read I have a lot of respect for your knowlege. I worked for Halliburton years ago,mostly in the cement department and allittle while in the frac department,but this is a whole different animal than what we did back then.

Logging While Drilling. Shales are "hot", ie. radioactive. Gamma-ray log measures radioactivity. As long as you're in "hot" rock, you're in shale. If you see the Gamma-ray response lowering, then you are getting closer to nonradioactive border beds.
Welcome, Kevin. Care to take a shot at an answer to the "Stupid Question ...." discussion topic on the main page? It concerns com-mingling of production. And it sounds as if you may have the knowledge to tackle it.
This may be the place to ask this question. Supposedly the gas in Red River Parish is HOT (I don't understand what that means) and it is cheaper to get gas out of Desoto and East Texas now because it is not as hot so not so costly to cool down plus the shale potential in Desoto and East Texas is equally good to Red River. A high ranking gas person told me this. I didn't want to say I didn't know what he was talking about, so can someone explain
