Devon announces 30.7 mmfcd well in San Augustine, TX - Kardell Gas Unit 1H

Huge news from Devon this morning as they have released the IP results of their Kardell Gas Unit 1H well in San Augustine, TX and it came in at a whopping 30.7mmfcd:

Nov. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Devon Energy Corporation (NYSE: DVN) today announced the results of a successful Haynesville Shale well in San Augustine County, Texas. The Kardell Gas Unit 1H achieved an average continuous 24-hour flow rate of approximately 30.7 million cubic feet of natural gas equivalent per day through a 37/64-inch choke. Flowing pressure was 6,824 pounds per square inch.

We will see. I would think just the opposite Bill. I have always heard the deeper the better. Perhaps the big boys will go deeper.

Do you think the well is even larger than the 30.7 ?? Techically, can they report larger when the "well is cleaned up" Whatever that means.

I'm just speaking from what my own gut/instincts tell me. Although, I'd love to hear some additional opinions from others out there who have the expertise/knowledge in the engineering/tech/geology side....

Regardless of whether this eventually proves to be less than the 30.7 or more than the 30.7 reported it is certainly now at the top of the class as far as Texas Haynesville wells are concerned and very might be at the top of the class for the whole damn play to date!

All told, fantastic news for all of you folks in San Augustine, Co and for all of us in the East Texas side of the equation.

Myself, I am dying to start seeing results on some of these Devon (and other operators) wells that are drilling/permitted in Shelby County as that is where our own minerals are located.

You and me both....It seems that some Gas Companies are dragging their feet.....not sure why.....unless they are waiting for the price to go up and stabilize.

My son-in-law is a petroleum engineer for Devon and the Kardell well is one of his wells. He told me tonight that it is flowing 30.7 now, but Devon will probably cut back the flow to 21 for pipeline purposes. They are drilling another well in Shelby County now about 1 mile as the crow flies from the Mary Harris well between FM 138 and SH87. I think he said the name of the well is Warr. Devon is definitely in San Augustine and Shelby County to find the shale!

The Warr well is probably nearest to Center. I would estimate about 6 miles out on FM 138. My son-in-law has been busy with the Kardell well for the past couple of months, but that has been good for me because my daughter and grandchildren came up with him when he had to stay on the rig so I got to see them more than usual.

This is clearly a very positive development for the southern portion of the Haynesville Shale play," said David A. Hager, executive vice president of exploration and production.
