Skip,

Perhaps, DNR acquired these assets or operate for Encore.  They did have an ownership stake in Encore but I believe recently sold out.

Ronnie

Yes, Denbury acquired the Encore assets. Approximately 110,000 acres are still active from the original Encore position.
I thought you might wish to update the website.  And include the well serial numbers if you would like to make it easy for viewers to look up the LA. wells on SONRIS.  Interesting wells.
Kirk,Can't help but wonder if you are from Amelia with the name of your website. Are you

Yes. Hopefully I made that obvious. No secrets or anonymous names here.

We'll keep adding to our TMS and Austin Chalk content on our website as these plays continue to develop. What's your interest in the area?

In West Feliciana Parish new leasing is happening but the rates are very low - 3 yr. -5yr. paid up at $125 - $150 per acre and 3/16 royalty is what I have seen so far. Merlin Energy of Lafayette is leasing and D&J Energy of Monroe has opened an office in St. Francisville to begin leasing according to local news.
Same in East Feliciana. DJ Energy.

Steve,

In contrast to one of the responses you received, I would state that a 25% royalty would only be obtained if you are near prolific production.  If not, I would guess that you would be overlooked during "Round 1" of leasing. If you are in the Feliciana Parishes, then paid up leases is currently the "norm". I'm not aware of anyone getting a 1/4 royalty.  Also, paid up leases are currently the norm.  Don't confuse your area with traditional South LA that has had prolific production.  I always encourage my landowners to lease at a fair rate to encourage drilling on your property.  That monthly royalty check is really what you want.

Also, contrasting with a response you received, Amoco never pursued the Austin Chalk in the 90's.  And they never blocked CHK from drilling any wells.  I was there working as a geologist.

This website has too many old "wives tales".  Oil companies don't play "keep away".

Kirk, That is not correct. I was approached by Amoco and I leased to them - at a very low rental - $35.00 or so an acre because I wanted drilling. I was told by their landman that they were interested in Austin Chalk. If you are correct then I was BOLD FACED LIED to by Amoco's man. Three years later CHK came in and wanted to lease with 2 years remaining on the 5 year lease that Amoco had. Amoco evidently would not work with CHK so my feeling is that Amoco played keep away to keep CHK out. This is not a "wives tales" as you put it. I have personal knowledge of this. My problem is now I don't trust anyone now. That's why I'm here to get information and knowledge from fellow land owners because you sure as hell can't get it from an industry person that's trying to lease your property.
Makes you wonder why, if they were wanting someone to lease cheap so they could drill, they would need a five year lease, huh?

NGI Shale Daily just added this article where we provide our perspective on the current state of the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale play.

Kirk, I really don't appreciate someone going on line on the internet and saying that what I said in an earlier post is an "old wives tale". As far as I'm concerned that's a personal attack and is liable and slander.

Further, the lease that I had signed with Amoco that was supposedly an Austin Chalk play was actually a Joint Venture with Pennington. The reason I know that is when I asked for a re-lease of my lease at the end of the term I got two of them one from Amoco and the other from Pennington.
