Those 17 cows are costing a lot more now then they did back then, maybe whoever lost those cows can get the folks of France to replace those cows and send some wine to.

I read an article about Poland starting to explore for shale gas - but this was strongly opposed by the French nuclear industry. It's not the French governemt as much as it's their nuclear power industry. I think France is a leader in nuclear energy and if they make a stong stand against fracking it will have an effect beyond France's borders.
However, the poorer nations cannot afford not to develop their shale. This could make Poland a real major nation in Europe. It's not "the french" who oppose shale gas - it's the nuclear power industry
