Comstock Oil and GAs intends to make application to the commissioner of conservation to  permit the applicant to drill in HA R SU58 & HA RA SU60 in the Logansport field.  I have property in Section 19 which is HA RA SU60.  There is a well that has been closed for future use in my back pasture.  That well was drilled in the 80's not a Haynesville well.  They want to make this: Register19-18HC No. 1 Alt.

the plat also shows three other wells in that section that will be alt. wells also.

What exactly does that mean.  The plat that they sent me also shows two wells being drilled in the far north part of section 19 and pull from section 18 and a well being drilled in the far south section of 18 and pulling from section 19.

Any help anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

Alternate unit wells.  Many modern drilling units are formed with the intention to drill multiple wells. The state requires that alternate unit wells meet specific spacing and set back requirements.  The Alternate Unit Well application and plat evidence the intended wellbore path, take points and Bottom Hole location.  As far as royalty based on unit production goes, alternate wells pay the same as the original unit well.  Alternate unit wells are good for royalty owners.

The register well that I am talking about was drilled for the Haynesville shale.  when this was drilled they pumped around 6 months and then closed it down.  If they make it and alt. well for a Haynesville shale well will they have to come back to this one and drill again?  Not sure how all this works. thanks for your help.

Teresa

You're welcome.  I don't have any idea what a "register well" is.  The first well drilled is the unit well.  Those that come afterward are alternate unit wells.  Haynesville Shale wells are not "pumped".  They are natural gas and flow on their own.  You may be referring to a well that was shut in after 6 months for mechanical reasons. Although it is possible that your operator may rework the unit well, that is unconnected to the drilling of one or more alternate unit wells.

Teresa:

Nearest I can tell, your property is kocated in the vicinity of Secs. 18 & 19, T12N-R15W, Desoto Parish. There has been prior Hosston, Pettet and Lower Glen Rose drilling and development in your area prior to Haynesville development.

Hosston wells are generally not drilled deep enough to approach a Haynesville test. Being unsure of the wellbore diameter and casing in the wells, it would be uncertain whether the wells can be deepened to provide a vertical shaft of sufficient depth and mechanical strength and integrity to build out an alternate into the Haynesville formation.

It is common on application plats to submit evidence of wells of sufficient depth in the vicinity of planned activities to warrant mention. In the past, many operators have shown evidence of wells drilled and/or completed to Hosston depths and deeper. Are you certain that is the intent of the operator to reenter and/or deepen an existing Hosston wellbore to recomplete to the Haynesville?

It would assist our review and commentary if you could supply the correspondence and plats via scan or photo capture.

Here is a copy of the plat that Comstock sent us.  thanks for all you help and information.

The plat is included in the application for the 4 alternate unit wells depicted, the Register 19-18HC #1-Alt and the three Tyler 19-18HC Alt-1 to 3.  The small circle at the bottom of each wellbore is the surface location.  The "X" is the first "take point" (the first perforation in the horizontal portion of the wellbore).  The wellbore ends at the Bottom Hole Location (BHL).  The spacing between wells and the portion of the horizontal wellbore that is perforated is what the state wishes to review and approve before the wells are drilled.  Approval does not guarantee that the wells will be drilled but usually the companies do follow through with drilling unless something unexpected arises.  Comstock will still need to apply for and receive a well permit to drill for each well.  There will be no notice provided for permitting of the wells.  It is likely that all four wells will be drilled sequentially by the same rig as that is the most cost efficient approach.  Good luck, I hope they make you some good wells.

Thank you for the information.  I have another question please.  On the Register 19-18HC #1Alt. well, will they come back and redrill this well?  If so how much land is required for this?  There is not much land near this well because of houses having been built.  Thanks again.

The Register 19-18H #1 is a new well, not an existing well.  Horizontal wells do not get "re-drilled" although side tracking an unusable wellbore is somewhat common during the drilling of an original well.  What exists on the surface has nothing to do with the path of the lateral.

If you were looking at the plat, How would I know where the new well was going to be drilled? thanks again

Where the circle is 750 feet from the South Line & 1560 feet from the West Line of Section 19.

I would think a big company like Comstock would check locations for wells out before they make application.  Going by the plat for where they want to drill the register #1 alt well there is a occupied house of at least 77 years there and two more next to that one.

I would like to thank you for your help in making understand what is going on.
