I understand not all areas will be leased. Can anyone tell me if they are leasing close to Plain Dealing and if so approx. how much per acre? Any wells yet up there? I have a little less than 50 acres there.

As of yet there has been no leasing for Haynesville Shale around Plain Dealing, nearly all experts and geologists agree that the Haynesville Shale does not extend that far north. I believe there are already Haynesville Sand wells in the vicinity of P.D.
But let's just stay hopeful for a minute at least that the well being drilled in 21n may actually show something different. I was told the operator of the rig said, they were going for the haynesville shale...this is hear say: but why would they spend this much money if they did not know something...this is unleased land....Guess we will have to wait and see. Sure wish i was a fly on the wall...
They also said there would be no shale found north of 19n, It think it has been proven to be in 20 n, is that correct cmk??
how close to pd are 20n and 21n?
PD is in 22N almost 8 miles northwest of the Cottage Grove test well.
Sir Checkmateking, Is the Cottage Grove well site the same thing as the well they are drilling on the Cedar Bluff Ranch? I talked to a security gard at their gate this weekend and he told me that this was a very big rig and that it had been on location for quiet a while. The Cedar Bluff Ranch is located off the old Plain Dealing road about 8 miles south of Plain Dealing.
Yes, in fact the name of the well is the Cedar Bluff #1
Yes in 20N for sure.
what is a sand well? a dry one?
I do not think that means dry, but I will wait for cmk to reply, he knows much more about this. CMK, how far from 22n sec 21 is this well that is being drilled now?
It's like this, the Haynesville is a formation, all it really means is a depth. The Haynesvile/Bossier formation is everything under the Cotton Valley and above the Smackover formations. Formations are named after where they were first discovered or sometimes by the geologist who discovers it. I.E. Cotton Valley LA, Haynesville LA, Smackover Arkansas etc. The Haynesville can either be a porous sand, like around Haynesville, LA and the state line areas or a pure shale like the known core areas of the HSHALE. Shales are very tightly packed layers of rock, think layers of clay one on top of the other. As you go north throughout the Haynesville formation it turns from shale to sand, in between the sand/shale there will be a transition area of interspersed sand/shale. The million dollar question we all want to know is just where this transition area starts. This can only be found out through drilling test wells. Great wells have been drilled into the H-sand but it is not nearly as high valued as the H-shale because it is not what is known as a resource play. The H-Shale is so highly valued because of its consistency, you can go anywhere in the core areas and be nearly guaranteed a monster well, this means that drilling these wells involves very little risk. Very little risk is what all operating companies want. Sand formations are known to be very lenticular. Lenticular means inconsistent, you might hit a huge H-sand well in one spot and go a mile down the road and drill and unproductive dry hole, this is where the risk comes into play, no operator wants to spend several million dollars drilling 10,000 feet to come up with nothing. Resource plays are valuable because in the proven areas there is basically 0% chance of drilling a dry hole in the core area.
ok, makes sense.
So at the present time the most northern "proven" shale area is 20n? This is better than what all of the na sayers started out with. I know i have read posts on here that said "noway would shale be past 19n",,,,,,Don't you just love how us "hopefull's" just keep beating the dead horse! Go north HSHALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
