Does anyone know of any new leasing, drilling, or other O&G activity in the southern counties of ARKANSAS?

Peggy, are you aware of the current interest in leasing land in Columbia by Covenant Oil out of Searcy. I attended a meeting at Taylor High School Wednesday night and would like to know if other people in the Walkerville area of Columbia County have anymore info about this venture.
I did not know about the meeting and have not heard anyone discussing any leasing interest in our area. Please tell me what you learned. Peggy
I am not sure if the Covenant Oil group is the same as the Border group, both working for Enron Oil and Gas (EOG). Covenant is working southwest Columbia County and Border in the Southeast part of the county. I just talked to someone today that said Border didn't pay for a draft, so be careful.
Peggy, Sorry I haven't replied sooner. But I just found your correspondence about Horsehead field. If we can generate a little more interest in dissolving old Petit field wide unit I will be glad to investigate to find out what procedure is in Arkansas. I am much more familiar with LA as most of my land is in LA. I do spend a lot of time in that area and will be back in late Aug. If you live in the area perhaps we could get together with other land owners out there. I know 2 or 3 landowners in the field but do not know if they own minerals or not. I do not believe Jeems Bayou will put up too much of a fight to preserve unit. I could be wrong.

In the event you would like to further discuss this with me you may call me at (480) 993-8048 or e-mail me at calais0929@aol.com.

We really need to get this done before activity picks up in the area. As to the best of my knowledge there is only one marginally profitable well in this unit which is holding about 2,000 acres under lease at 1/8th royalty.

We were offered 1/8th RI and then an Assignment of 1/16 Override, $150 bonus and a 5 year lease. I think it stinks. Offer came from Hunter Engery.Any suggestions? The guy seems arrogant and I don't want to sign with him. Has anyone hear of him and his group?
Les - contact Allen67 of the Arkansas group. He usually knows everything going on in Lafayette county.
Border (EOG) is calling this one a dry hole.
Yea that is what they are saying but I will tell you this. They brought in intermediate casing into this site and you just dont bring in this casing unless you know you are going to get results! If it is a dry hole then they sure made a big mistake. I heard they are moving the rig toi Mansfield La. I think around Sunday or Monday. There is NO activity going on around the well site as of right now, so we will see if and when they drill another. Nothing on the docket yet, but cant see them not trying another , My guess is section 13-14 just north of where they drilled or section 7 which is the section that they paid the most money for!!!!
Skip, I was wondering if you could answer a question. Wouldnt it be crazy to bring in intermediate casing to a location on the assumption that it might make a well? That costs money! Also when the rig left, there wasnt any casing that left that I know of. You would have to assume that they made a well. Also, dont they use a rig to cement the hole if its dry? Does this mean they would have to bring a rig in to do this. None of that makes sense. I will have to disagree with anyone who says its a dry hole until proven otherwise! How reliable are your sources on the rig itself? I know one of the main guys that was on this rig.
Allen. I don't have any sources related to the rig. I analyze things from the perspective of a landman. And landmen working a specific well often are the first to know when management declares a dry hole and stops operations. Why continue to run up a land bill if you don't plan to produce? Make sense? Now there has been a comment I believe concerning the fact that there were two land crews from two different companies working this project. It was not obvious at first that only one was let go. And the other remains and continues to work the last I heard. So maybe ya gotta well.

All wells, even the dry ones, get "surface casing" and a well head when there is no rig on site. And the rig that P&A's (plugs and abandons) is usually a different rig/crew. It/they are cheaper. I am unsure of your reference to intermediate casing. Please be aware that surface casing can go quite deep. By law surface casing protects the vertical section of the well bore that cuts through water producing strata. It's there to protect the water table from contamination. And peoples' wells. If the intermediate casing is in the hole, that's good. If it is just on the site and the first rig is gone, well that's not so good as the intermediate casing is still a portion of the vertical well bore. And should have been installed by the first rig.

I'd say we need a little more info. Be patient and pass along what you hear. But it does appear that you're still in the game. Good Luck.
Thanks , good information, learning a little more each day!
If it truly was intermediate casing, then think about the name you are using on the casing. INTERMEDIATE. It is plausible to have to run and cement the intermediate casing in the well in order to then drill deeper to see the objective sand.
