LITTLE ROCK -- The Arkansas Public Service Commission on Friday authorized Fort Smith-based Arkansas Oklahoma Gas Corp. to sell natural gas to the public to fuel natural gas-powered vehicles.

The commission's approval of a tariff filing by the company will allow the company to give customers the option of fueling their vehicles at a designated company-owned facility or from a customer-owned facility.

The cost for the service, based on commodity prices and rates approved by the commission, is estimated to be equivalent to $1.60 per gallon of gasoline.

The commission commended the company in its order approving the company's request

"The development, implementation and expansion of this initiative via AOG's NGV (natural gas vehicle) tariff will give Arkansans the option of using a cleaner and thus more environmentally friendly vehicle fuel alternative to petroleum-based products. This initiative can also serve as a positive step toward the growing goal of energy independence," the commission said.

$1.60 per gallon will seem like a miracle when gas is back at $4.00 per gallon in a year!
