Kudos to Encana for sponsoring the new center. It is monitored by as well as designed by the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association. It is located at 400 Travis Street, Suit 1501, Shreveport La.
President of LAOG Don Briggs hopes the local office will be able to educate people about the process of negotiating leases, including the fact that lease values are mainly based on speculation.

Good one Mr. Jim,
How about...
Killer Whales helping the Fur Seals ?
The LOGA benefits the O&G's.Not Mineral owners. If they were trying to help the neighborhoods they would have been here 8 months ago, wouldnt they ?

I understand how important they are to O&G. I just hate to see them spending money that was fleeced from all these local "yoo-hoos" that didnt know any better. They happen to be the ones that needed all of this vital info that LOGA is willing to give out now.

Look at the grants that RR Parish Fire Dept got to help them out.$10,000 to the Desoto Council on Aging to help defray costs of their meals program. Can you say P.R. !!!! Sounds like a lot of money until you consider that it is actually only about 1 acre of leased land that they got for a song. Hows the slogan go ? You can put lipstick on a pig..........

KB may not be willing to be critical but I certainly am! Every time that they try to get a photo shoot in the Times, I will make mention of the fact that we do not matter to these people. They have and will continue to lie, cheat and steal at every given opportunity. That is how they do business. Not all involved but maby. The industry itself has a huge black eye and I will continue to wipe the makeup off of it every time they try to cover that black eye.

This certainly isnt politically correct but guess what........................... The election is over !
Maybe... u can put lipstick on a pig, but it still smells like a swine.
"Briggs hopes the local office will be able to 'educate' people about the process of negotiating leases, INCLUDING the fact that the lease values are mainly based on SPECULATION? Just when you think they can't think of any more positions, in an attempt to manipulate mineral rights owners...we want your lease but remember we are just speculating! I guess none of us read the newspaper or watch television...the wells in Louisiana have put the "speculation to rest", as if there was ever any speculation!
Good grief,

This is an amusing discussion. First many on this site are critical of thew industry for taking advantage of landowners. Now, when the industry trys to help by trying educate landowners, its taken as some sort of evil plan by the industry.
I understand why you distrust those yahoos, I just don't think all of us industry folks should be judged on the actions of the out-of-towners.
I ask this in the most respectful manner possible. If you truly think this way, then what measures are you taking to reverse public opinion? Would you, as someone in the industry, be willing to fight for greater responsibilities, even if it includes tighter restrictions, regardless of your origin?
I try to conduct myself as honorably as possible. I was born in shreveport, left for school, now i'm back. I don't plan on leaving anytime soon. I was here before the shale came out, and I plan on being here after its developed.

I generally oppose more regulation. If current rules and regulation are properly enforced, they work. The mineral code has been around for a long time and works well.

That being said, Its not my job to educate mineral owners. I work for my employer. I contribute to this site because I do enjoy helping those who do not have the benifit of experiance.

I also enjoy the political debates, but thats a diffrent story.

Anyway...Individuals should not rush into any buisness desision without reasearching how it will effect them. You don't expect the car dealer to explain the hold back on the car you buy, do you?

The bottom line is, educate yourself. Don't make rash desisions just because there is a big check in front of you. Everyones situatuion is different. Some are open to the idea of selling minerals or royalty. Others would never entertain the idea.

I guess what i am trying to say is don't lump everyone into the same basket, because many of us in the industry are honest decent people.
Maybe someone should go check it out before everyone poo poos the idea.
And how was the quality of the info?
Now thay have fieldhands you can eat!!
I'll believe that when KB finds a video of when a pig starts retrieving ducks.
