Haynesville Shale: What's changed for you since the evolving of this play?

I am putting togther a compilation of stories from this play. It obviously has changed all of our lives to a certain degree. I'd like to get a chronicle of these stories. If you'd like to share your story, email it to admin@gohaynesvilleshale.com. I'm looking for the good, the bad and even the ugly.

Nothing changed. Lots of study and reading. Received 'low-ball' offer for lease which I rejected nearly two years ago. Wish we would get a president who would set a national energy policy to make us energy self-sufficient. T. Boone Pickens has lots of good ideas!
Keith--Yes without question this play (The Haynesville Shale)has changed my life especially how I evaluate things and people now. The oil & Gas business is looked at differently depending what side of the deal you are on. People who are in the o&g business who are your friends can change very quickly when they find out you have minerals in the play and you are uneducated about leases, etc. Money follows greed and under what they consider good business will results in you possible be take advantage of in the situation and by your friendship. It can be worse if they do not know you. The low ball leases and lease agreements with changes of even the standard 88 forms to their advantage are hard to believe now 2 years later looking back. Have join many educational groups like NARO and this site plus hours of reseach, reading, self study, how after couple bad leases and ROW have good oil & gas attorney review every thing. I have learn to take time to evalaute any lease offer and find out who they are leasing for and what going on in my area. So changes ---I have learn patients and trust only my family, my lawyer, my true friends and GOD. I hope even the bad leases will still pay out ok in future or expire due to company not enough money and time to drill it and then new lease with educated knowledge I have gained. This site if you look to the right comments can be very helpful. I hope to share some of the things I have learn.
Hello, my name is Greg bowman-my wife and i own 1 acre property in De Soto Parrish-we live in arizona. We bought the property because my Wife's Mom and sisters and brothers live there and my sister in law lives on our property-all next door to each other.I know what it is like with money-i'm 49 and when i was 18 years old and going to college i got hurt in a accident and my legs were parylized. We sued the Government and in 1985 i receieved a good middleclass settelment and realized real quick just who my true friends really are.i'm just going to use what you said, it's so true i Pray for patients and trust in GOD, my family and true friends.since i live in yuma, az and my family in De Soto Parish outside of shreveport don't seem to know much about things concerning this-i think in Feb. of 2010 they started drilling on our 640 acre parcel in section 32-it should be soon when we start recieving royalties. We originaly got from petrohawk 25% royalties and 3500.00 up front 1 and half years or so ago-i believe petrohawk and chesapeke made a deal and chesapeke did the drilling. What i'd like to know is- who is your lawyer and if i should have him look over any new future leasing or whatever comes up.Thank You and God Bless You. In His Grace. greg and micki bowman
Put a big chunk in savings, paid off the mortgage, and retired after working for over 45 years nonstop (husband is still working, but will be retiring end of this year). Helped our children and grandchildren, and of course gave God his part...... took a trip to Hawaii, built a swimming pool, and just finished building a cabana with a full outdoor kitchen and fireplace...... life is good!
Forgot to say we were doing okay financially before the Haynesville Shale. My husband and I both worked, paid our taxes, and saved for our future so our children wouldn't have to help take care of us in our old age. But now, thanks to this unexpected blessing, we can make life easier for our five children and twelve grandchildren (hopefully without spoiling them), and help others who are less fortunate.......... and that's a great feeling.
financial stability before the shale is so important...
Yes Keith, financial stability was always a goal for me and my husband, and it still is! Unless one already has this knowledge, I suggest that anybody who has or will receive monies from the Haynesville Shale, take a course in finance, accounting, and economics...... they'll be glad they did!
Take the coursework and you will learn the difference between an annuity and a perpituity. Too many MROs assume that their wells act like a perpituity. Learn the lessons from the real estate guys that priced/financed their homes as if the prices would never fall.
You are soooo right Hines bn3. One should never count their chickens till they hatch!!!!!!!
New apreciation of my Father and Grand father and those before them.
Met relatives, by phone so far, but we are looking forward to a reunion of sorts, to all meet each other.
Was very generous with a local church, my mother's and my grandmother's church.
Found a lost branch of the family that we did know existed.
Put money away for grandchildren's college.
Took children and grandchildren on a 7 day cruise.
Took a motorcycle driver class, passed the written....er....and can go back to take the skills test again.lol
Actualy, one thing that has changed is I now a very picky risk taker. As I was in motorcylcle class on the range, I kept thinking, if I go splat on the concrete because of a squirrel, I won't be able to spend the money on my loved ones, or see them in cap and gown, walk down the aisle, etc. So maybe it was blessing that I did not make the cut for the skills test.
Have you seen those nice looking bicycles they make now days...?lol
I may have to go back to quilting and sewing, not many tragic deaths realted to that hobby.
Completed Project Management Certificate program at state university.
Still working but looking for better opportunities.
Learned more than the average bear about Nat gas, minerals rights, Desoto Parish, leasing and LA Taxes.
Learned that attorneys can be your friend or at least, they can make themselves useful in moderation.
Completed family room remodel.
Nice money cushion in the bank.
Considering buying 1-2 pieces of income property.
There are not too many places to park cash right now, where it is safe and a decent return rate. I don't want to burned with the market and since it is so volatile I have stayed clear of the market for this $$ so far.
But I might as well have the $$ under the mattress for the interest I am receiving.
If it is not working for me, then I am not doing justice to its power to earn.
Where people and how people are investing their stashes, is another good topics Keith?
Discovered the GHS Site and it's members, who have been and continue to be invaluable resources.
Thank you.
I agree, I have 13,500, or so, new friends...
