Natural-gas prices rise after EIA supply data ( NGQ13 ) by Saumya Vaishampayan
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Natural-gas futures rose Thursday after the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported an increase in U.S. supplies for the week ended July 12 that was smaller than expected. U.S. supplies of natural gas in storage climbed by 58 billion cubic. Analysts polled by Platts had expected an increase between 66 and 70 billion cubic feet. Total stocks now stand at 2.745 trillion cubic feet, down 414 billion cubic feet from a year ago and 34 billion cubic feet below the five-year average. August natural gas (ngq13) was up 15 cents, or 4%, to $3.78 per million British thermal units

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of) nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
