sesport: the entire article doesn't mention natural gas, unless I missed it in my read-through. What this rally is ALL ABOUT is mobilizing to knock out the Cap and Tax bill currently being worked in Congress. It is a horrible bill, written by greenie weenies and will cost all consumers millions of dollars. It does nothing for the natural gas industry at this point and will drive gasoline and automobile prices through the roof.

It is but one of Obama's plans/policies that must FAIL!
Does anyone notice the government is trying to destroy this country. We have the most stupid people in the US trying to run private America they need to tend to the government and leave corporate America alone. If the government would get out of the way we would have more jobs for all Americans coal miners and gas producers. The politians have screwed up the government so bad it is broke and about to go under and now they are trying to rob corporate America/tax payers to bail them out. They all need to lose their jobs and benefits and see how they like it.
Mmmarkkk - re. your comment that it (the bill) does nothing for the natural gas industry. IMHO, to keep using coal instead of transitioning to ng does nothing for the nat gas industry, either. Either we pay to reduce carbon emissions from coal (is that really possible?) or we just start using lower carbon emission ng. Guess which I choose?

BTW, did you see which Fox celeb was one of the headliners? ( hint: the name sounds like a crazy sneeze ... haaa, haaa, haaaNUTTY. :0) Wonder how he benefits from keeping the coal industry alive, well and healthy? lol

My thought about this is that if the coal industry starts strengthening it's voice (okay, I'll be blunt, their lobbying efforts), could it weaken the push toward using more ng in power generation and industry. And it took me sooooo long to research a viable future off-peak power plant as a model that would be using gas.
I like the idea of natural gas being a bigger part of our energy equation. I just don't see it in the current bill. I just see a bill that unfairly burdens refineries with excess carbon costs based on what I believe to be a half baked science. The bill in its current form is no more than another tax hike to take money from private companies and individuals and give it to the government...a government which has shown it is not well-versed in handling money efficiently or effectively.

Maybe Hannity benefits from the coal industry like Al-Bore benefits from all the greenie weenie crap he's pushing down our throats...ol' Al is raking in millions of dollars on the backs of this "environmental" initiative! Thank God the Supreme Court kept him out of the oval office!

And my favorite part of this event: THE MOTOR CITY MADMAN TED NUGENT WAS THERE!!!! A real American!
i've been kicking this opinion around in my skull after reading a few threads along the same 'vein.' so i guess i'll just voice it here, good as anywhere.

i honest to god don't blame the coal companies for fighting. not only do they have the deep pockets to do so, the folks that rely on the industry for their livelihood expect it, and with good cause. if i lived in west virginia and had no gas interests i'd probably be a rabid coal supporter.

don't get me wrong, i still want my agenda to come out on top. but i understand the opposition.
essay, you are correct. For the most part the whole economy centers around the coal industry. Alot of areas most jobs are mining coal, hauling coal, or working at a power plant. I would I would be fighting to keep it going too.
I can appreciate the competition here; however, it seems our problem will be that we will have the natural gas and oil, but it is being shipped in. A lot of LNG is imported too.About the only thing we compete with the coal is for making electricity, isn;t it? Of course, we do pipeline gas Northward; they also use the old-fashioned wood stoves along with the gas. I spent a Chrismas there with friends and I found that interesting that the wooden stove never stopped along with the gas.
essay: I fully agree with you. Folks should push and push hard for their industry. Its the American Capitalist way. Of course, these days its turning into a "hate crime" to be a capitalist, or even a proud American.

Industry is supposed to push for their agenda. Legislators are supposed to weigh all sides and come up with something that is good for the country. Unfortunately, many of them come up with something that will line their pockets and make their voting blocks happy.
psssst, Mmmarkkk - Isn't that exactly what we want our politicians in this part of the country to do for us? Push OUR agenda, keep OUR voting block happy, keep OUR economies up & running ( lining our pockets ). I think that's how they get elected. I haven't seen a LA or TX politician get elected yet that promises to get CA or NY what they want. lol

That said, I thought it might be useful for us & our politicians to stay abreast of what another energy resource state is doing to get a jump on us. Where is that NG lobby?????

Aren't you a tad too young to know about Ted Nugent? Here's a present for you. You owe me some barbeque!

:0)
Too young for Ted?? I wish I were that young!! 'Cat Scratch Fever' was a favorite of mine, as was the Jackson 5's "I want you back" and Otis Redding's "Sittin on the dock of the bay". Have I dated myself with these? And yes, I was musically confused as a kid! Still am! Country, Blue Grass, Rock, Kid Rock, and everything else in between EXCEPT that Rap Crap.

I've got my eye on a new B-B-Q grill at Sam's...its 6 foot long and 3 foot wide. Should feed a family of 4 quite nicely, right?? Of course I'll have to retrofit it to hook up to my gas line! Maybe a booster compressor!! Get that fire burning bright!
I am in an interesting spot. I live in WV and have most of my life. I have family who depend on mining and two brothers who are currently laid off miners. I am a VP of a local bank and I can see how mining layoff can hert my business. So I see every day how important mining is here.

My wife is from Pelican and we own land in Oxford that has been drilled, but the well is not in production. So I am also pulling for the gas industry. I have kids in college and need the money.

I am watching both very close.
WV: I think the "right" answer is that we'll need coal AND Nat Gas AND renewables AND oil. We don't have the luxury or the requirement to choose one over the other. We can't afford a radical move to just one. All of this has to be done gradually to avoid destroying many people's lives and investments as well as avoiding the need to sink massive amounts of capital to "jump start" any one option as a "100% solution". I think we can start to phase in one while phasing out the other. Tell all those youngsters in WV to start looking at work in the natural gas business rather than the coal industry. As folks start to retire, that workforce will start to decline as should the output. But this will take many years to do correctly. In the meantime, as the economy starts to turn around, demand will start to heat up and we can start ramping up NG and the renewables that are PROFITABLE without massive government subsidies. Give them some tax breaks, but don't give them at the expense of taking away other industries tax breaks.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
