What Is the Position of Onshore O&G Toward Offshore Moratorium?

I noticed this article and wondered, haven't seen statements issued specifically by onshore companies.

Thanks, Jay. I'm aware of the position taken by the companies with offshore interests, but it occurred to me that I hadn't seen anything from onshore companies such as Petrohawk or Chesapeake. Haven't checked with orgs/associations like ANGA, though. I didn't know if I had missed statements issued or if there haven't been any.

Hey Sesport -

Chesapeake operates completely onshore and has not been affected by the events in the Gulf. Offshore is a very different industry with different operational and emergency issues. We are keeping steady operating 34 rigs in the Haynesville, and will continue to aggressively develop the play in the years to come.

Hope this helps!
Katie
Thanks, Katie. Has Chesapeake issued a statment regarding their position on the moratorium? Are they in support of other companies' position(s)?

The first impulse after a major accident is to increase regulation.

While the facts are still coming in about the human and environmental tragedy unfolding in the Gulf, at the end of the day we expect the evidence will show that strictly enforcing existing laws, rules, regulations and following best management practices can more than adequately protect people and the environment, especially in an onshore environment where issues are much less complex to effectively handle.

That said, as long as human beings are involved, occasional accidents will happen – our job is to reduce the likelihood of their occurrence and then be fully prepared to quickly address them to limit their human and environmental impact.
Thanks again, Katie. I recognize that onshore & offshore impacts are different. I just wondered whether the 2 "branches" of the industry were in alignment with their concerns.

More generic crap from CHK.
Sorry you feel that way. Is there anything I can do to help you?
Again, thanks all.

I think there's sufficient input now. So, I'll let this die down.

"Till, now, on the stroke of midnight,
Cold, on the stroke of midnight,
The tip of one finger touched it! The trigger at least was hers!"

Okay, okay, so it's not exactly midnight ...

3900 producing offshore wells
moratorium affects only 30 some odd rigs--those drilling new wells
for the industry NOT to support the moratorium, until IT has in place an actual oil spill prevention and recovery plan (as opposed to the golf ball top hat unmonitored booms bullshit "plan" we see now), proves either the entire industry is irresponsible or just a knee jerk shirt sightedneas that needs to be net with a two by four and a bat to the head
I have a few friends down in Houma.... They are all overwhelmingly against the moratorium.
Thanks again, Jay. I have been keeping up with newsfeeds from state & federal government, from BP themselves, and from several orgs working the clean-up. I am more than well aware of how it's going down there.

My point was to specifically find out whether onshore O&G's are backing the offshore industries in their position about the moratorium.

LOL. I have to apply a gaming term. Dual Wield, is to hold a weapon in each hand. On the controller repeatedly depress the left and right triggers to apply a liberal beatin' upon the skull. Rinse. Repeat.
