Thanks Les, This area is heating up hope it's real productive.
Les, How soon do they actually drill a well from the time they apply for a unit? Or what is the average time? It seems to me there are a lot of units applied for and not as much drilling. Also, do they always drill when they apply for a unit?
Landowner, there does not seem to be any set pattern as it varies significantly by operator and area. Some units formed almost one year ago still have not been drilled. One significant factor is the amount of acreage with expiring leases. In some areas this is going to require an increase in drilling during the next two years to hold acreage.
When Petrohawk is approved for the haynesville units, do they have to drill within a specific time frame or lose the right of this application? Do they also apply for the application only after they have leased a section or does that matter?
Landowner, I am not aware of any drilling requirement (or time frame) contained within the unit order. Typically a company will only apply for a unit after they have leased a majority of a section. But each company may have a different % benchmark dependent upon whether the remaining acreage is unleased or simply leased to another company.
