WLL permitted the Bailey Mortuary 23H #1 this date in the Blackburn Field, S23 & N/2 S26 - 22N - 8W, Claiborne Parish.  Although the permit is not yet uploaded to the database and the well name does not reflect a unit designation, WLL applied for a L SMK unit and received approval via Field Order 353-G.  I expect that the name will be changed in the near future to reflect that fact.  This is a permit for a horizontal well.

I think this is in the same unit with the WLL  Jackson etal Well # 246327.  Any news on the Jackson well?

Correct, Jon.  Here's my last entry for the Jackson well.

ENERGY DRILLING  #7 42 DAYS DRLG  7/5/13

I am not knowledgeable on any of this, but WLL must like what they see in the Jackson to go Horizontal in this well..

I don't know, Jon.  I will wait to see if rig 7 is reported still drilling the Jackson well Friday.  That's a long time, and a lot of money, to have not reached TD as of last report.  A friend in the industry mentioned a complaint he heard from a land owner in the area who was also in the industry.  The complaint was that WLL was using an under powered rig for a horizontal well of that depth.  I blew it off because I really doubted that WLL would do such a thing.  My curiosity got the best of me and I looked up the specs for Energy Drilling Rig #7.  It is rated at 1000 hp.  I would expect such a well would require a 1500 hp rig.  The DeSoto rigs employed by SWN on their BD wells are 1500 hp.  Looking through the rest of Energy Drilling's fleet they only have one rig rated at 1200 hp and 3 at 1000 hp out of 12 total rigs (2012).  That tells me that they may be short on experience with drilling horizontal wells to these depths.  What I'm hoping is not the case is that the rumors are true and the mechanical problems in the Jackson well necessitate this new well being drilled in the same general location.  Of course that possibility also could indicate that WLL likes what they have seen in the Jackson.  We'll have to wait and see what rig is assigned to this new well.

Energy Drilling's rig #7 was the rig drilling all the AIX vertical wells wells to depths of 10,600 ft to 11,700 ft the last 12 months.  Not sure if that is relevant.  The Jackson well is a vertical well. I hope WLL does know what they are doing.  Any way something to talk about.

Jon, yes, I think 1000 hp is sufficient for a vertical well like the AIX wells you mention.  I was hoping WLL would like their pilot hole and go horizontal in the Jackson.  Wishful thinking.  The Jackson is permitted as a vertical completion.
