A consortium of companies including Ginger Oil of Houston has received permits to begin drilling its Lamb No. 1 prospect well in the Tiger Creek Field of Claiborne Parish, Louisiana.

Test drilling will go to a depth of 12,300 feet. Drilling is expected to take three to four weeks.

Ginger has worked since 2007 on developing Tiger Creek. The company's press release August 22, 2008 reported the project under the name "Resource Creek." Ginger Oil completed in 2008 acquisition of mineral rights to the area in Claiborne Parish. The area is believed to contain a geologically interesting, deep, tight sandstone formation with the potential to contain hydrocarbon resources in the form of gas and condensate.

In June 2010 Ginger published an agreement with two leading oil and gas producers for participation in the exploitation of Tiger Creek. The company's two partners acquired the 72 percent cost share in the exploitation of the Tiger Creek in exchange for cash and financial commitments in connection with the first test drilling. The cost to drill the first well is approximately $12 million. If the consortium decides to proceed with production, this means additional investment of around $12 million in Lamb No. 1.

The resource potential of the Tiger Creek is classified as probable and amounts to 90 billion cubic feet of natural gas and 7.8 million barrels, a total of 22.2 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Ginger has 28 percent share of the costs and 20 percent share of revenues.

Ginger Oil is a U.S.-based oil and natural gas company focused on the prospect with the aim of finding new reserves. The company acquires, develops, extracts and sells oil and natural gas reserves. Ginger operates in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Michigan. Exploration activities are conducted from Houston and its parent company based in Stockholm, Sweden.

Does anyone know anything about the formations in this area?  Well Serial # 242875

From quick glance my guess is they are looking for the Haynesville SAND(not the same as shale) found in this well:

in the adjacent section.  It looks ilke they also found some CV section that was productive.  From the TD i'm going to guess they are looking for multiple possible targets(smackover(possible brown dense depending on how that plays out), haynesville sand and cv).

Any word on this test?

The well was drilled to 12,000' and then reported as Plugged & Abandoned on April 13.

Yep, April of 2011.  Did you ever see the unit application on this, Skip?  Thanks

No, Rafe.  I do not review drilling units in fields or areas where the Haynesville formation is sand, only where it is shale.

No. 1:  It would be a mistake to assume that the Magnolia Reporter is a good source for O&G news.

No. 2:  Re: Ginger Oil -

They have permitted one well in LA., back in 2004.  The permit expired, the well was never drilled.  They do not hold a current permit to drill a well in Claiborne Parish.  And the Department of Conservation does not have a field called Tiger Creek in Claiborne Parish.

Although I have not run across them previously, I have seen a number of similar companies that trade as penny stocks.  A good percentage are out and out frauds.  Tread carefully with companies such as Ginger.

In Ginger's last quarterly report (Feb 2012), they claim their Claiborne Parish position  would be greatly benefitted if SWN's Garrett well proves to be a big producer of crude oil because of the formation they are sitting on at the "Tiger Creek Field" (the name Ginger has always used for that part of the Oaks Field located south of Kisatchie...there is a Tiger Creek in the area).  Ginger's website has lots of info about their only well in Claiborne Parish at "Tiger Creek", the Lamb No. 1 (as listed in Sonris) drilled and plugged in 2011.  What do you make of these comments from Ginger Oil and Garrett?  What do you think about the test well, the Lamb No. 1?  That unit application might be interesting (site says they have more than 12 square miles of leases at "Tiger Creek").  Here is Ginger's quarterly report (in Sweedish only, I cut and pasted into Google Translator):

The state O&G database lists only one well for Ginger Oil.  A permit that was never drilled in 2004 in Iberia Parish.  Got a Serial Number for that Lamb No. 1?

The Lamb #1 in the Oaks Field is not by Ginger Oil.  The operator is STEPHENS PRODUCTION COMPANY.

I think it likely that Ginger Oil is a penny stock company attempting to sell stock.  It's not unusual for such companies to buy small working interests in wells such as the Lamb No. 1 and then to spin expectations.  I doubt there is anything of interest in the unit application but I can tell you how to look it up if you would care to follow up.

As to Stephens Production, see below.  They have a total of three wells only one of which is producing.

Thanks, Skip.  I'm sure your assessment of Ginger possibly overstating the value of their position is accurate.  Btw, they are listed as the applicant for this Oaks Field drilling unit in 2009.  Here is the link.
