Ensign US Drilling SW Rig #751 reports 62 days drilling ahead, 1/24/14.  The rig is no longer reporting depth.

 Skip,

Maybe they decided to shorten the total depth/length of the lateral. In the past it has been shortened on several wells by necessity when an expensive problem occurs before reaching TD. Is it customary to stop reporting the depth or is this an indication of a last minute problem?

I'm not sure how common or rare the practice may be and I don't necessarily think it has any significance as to drilling ops.  Considering how much is riding on their TMS ops I think GDP may have decided to have their drilling contractor omit depth to limit the possibility of negative perceptions.

I understand they are near bottom hole.

Unless there are some issues, they should be finished this week.

Good news to hear let's all hang in there things are staring to shape up in the Tms play in Amite county so lets all stay possivtie because they are coming
With the market getting smacked today, GDP was moving up. Makes me believe there may be good news soon, what does everyone think?

Ensign US Drilling SW Rig #751 reports 76 days drilling ahead @ 17,922', 2/7/14.

Skip, that is exactly the same report as a week ago except for the date!  I don't see how they could be drilling ahead for an additional week but not made a single foot of new hole.  Makes no sense!

I see this all the time, SB.  It is quite common.  "Drilling Ahead" indicates that drilling ops are on going although that could entail running casing, logging , coring, etc. or other ops that are not actually drilling.  The main point is that the rig is still on the location and not finished with the well.

Skip, i hate to ask, but could you give a brief tutorial about how to access this info using the mosgb?  i am sure that i am not the only one that cannot access this information-or maybe i am, who knows?  thanks for all of the info that you post for us.

dc, the information that I post is not from the MSOGB.  It is from my subscription to RigData's Weekly Rig Report for the Ark-La-Tex region.  The region includes MS but not the Florida parishes in LA.  Rig reports are far better for following rig ops than any state database.  The reason is that the rig is reporting every Friday as long as they are on that location for the purpose of directing suppliers and sub-contractors to support the rig.  Operators (the energy company) report to the states and are under no requirement and have no compelling reason to report regularly.  LA's SONRIS database is the gold standard for state O&G databases and it regularly doesn't report a well as spud until after the rig has TD'ed and is long gone.  Those who wish to follow rig ops and movements need to subscribe to a rig reporting service.
