Cabot Oil & Gas Provides Operations Update Current Marcellus Production Over 100 Mmcf per Day!
HOUSTON, Feb. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (NYSE: COG) today announced continued success in all of its initiatives. "We have spent much of the last three-plus months with our heads down, focused on moving our Marcellus and East Texas operations forward," said Dan O. Dinges, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. "The results highlighted below are a culmination of that effort."

East Texas

Operationally, since the last call, the East Texas region has successfully completed three Pettet horizontal oil wells, two James Lime gas wells and a horizontal Cotton Valley Taylor sand well, while drilling and casing the first Company operated horizontal Haynesville shale well.

The Pettet oil wells produced consistent results with average IP rates from the three wells of 714 Bbls of oil (with one well testing 947 Bopd) and 1,900 Mmcf of gas per day. Currently the 2010 plan has eleven Pettet wells in the mix, with one flowing back, two wells to complete, two drilling and four wells to be drilled.

The Cotton Valley Taylor Sand horizontal confirmation well was a success with IP of 8.9 Mmcf per day and a 30-day production rate of 5.9 Mmcf per day. This 94 percent working interest well has an estimated ultimate recovery of over 6 Bcfe. The Company is currently drilling its third well in this play.

In St. Augustine County, the Company has drilled and cased its first operated horizontal Haynesville shale well. "We expected to have this well completed in early January, but the combination of a significant inventory of 2009 deferred completions for the industry, coupled with fewer high pressure pumping crews, has created a back-log in this completion space," commented Dinges. "Right now this well is in the queue for late February or early March."

Wow! Horizontal oil @ over 700 bbls per day! That's awesome. And a horizontal Cotton Valley well. That's awesome too. EOG and Chesapeake have been talking about a greater emphasis on liquids (oil). I hope their focus is here as opposed to the the Barnett or the North Dakota Bakken field. They'll probably do them all. These Cabot wells are great news. A 700+ bbl per day oil well was also hit in Sabine County. A 700 bbl oil well is roughly equivalent to a 10 mmcf gas well, but maybe without such steep declines? Now we need find out what they are looking for beneath the Haynesville. Rumors are it might be better than the Haynesville. Where's the Cheerleader? You are right, East Texas is the Motherload!
I thought it was pretty "Wow" but didn't know how to compare that to gas production. It will be interesting to see how they do over time.

I believe that the Taylor Sand tests are in the Minden field.
FYI - When that Lacy well in Sabine Co hit at 739+ bbls/day last week I took a look at some of the historical production in the area.

The 90's wells that started out in that 750-880 bbl/day range ultimately ended up producing over 200,000 bbls over the production life of the well.

So with oil at $75/bbl that would project out to a gross of around $15,000,000 for that one well.

If/when oil gets back up it really does start to be significant:

$100/bbl = $20,000,000 gross well.
$125/bbl = $25,000,000 gross well.
$145/bbl = $29,000,000 gross well.

Not too shabby.
It will bear watching, I think. Those historical wells in Sabine are impressive but I believe most (all?) of them were producing from the Austin Chalk. The new well is in a shallower formation (Saratoga). So... it will be interesting to see how they compare. I think this is the first ever horizontal completion in the Saratoga but I could be wrong. If anyone knows of others I'd like to hear about them.

The Pettit wells are between the James Lime and the Cotton Valley.
Great news. Just for clarification, the Sabine well is in the Saratoga and the Cabot wells are in the Pettit, and all are horizontal. So, there are apparently at least three oil plays (Austin Chalk, Saratoga, Pettit) and 5 gas plays (James Lime, Travis Peak, Cotton Valley, Bossier and Haynesville). Wow. And still the question of "what lies beaneath"?
More oil..... Motherload People!!!!!
I have been at Cheerleading Camp learning new red, white and blue cheers !!!
Horizontal oil wells!!!!
East Texas is blessed and San Augustine is the Mega Motherload!!!!!
Well!!! Now that you have returned things can get back to normal, LOL!
Cheerleader I enjoy your comments. Not to be critical, but I thought the terminology was "Motherlode", not "Motherload."
James L. Williams,
I can't take credit for coining the term Mother Load/MotherLoad.
Jurassic Exploration, on June 8, 2008, at oilvoice.com, predicted that northern San Augustine and Sabine counties would be the "Mother Load" of the Haynesville. It appears they were "right on".
Excuse me.... I feel a cartwheel coming on!!!!
cheerleader, do you wear a crash helment when you are stunt/posting?
i can just imagine you hitting a few keys between cartwheels ! im gunna have to go with LOAD. i think the saying dates back to the gold rush days, referring to a giant load being hauled out of the mine. as to the location of that motherload you speak of... i think its in shelby county and i think i know exactly where it is. thanks for the exciting posts. everybody likes a cheerleader.
kj
these are pettit H wells in NNW San Augustine County in the southern part of the "County Line Field" COG found oil when they where drilling H James Lime well and producted the gas first at the time gas was paying better than oil. Then last fall oil was more economical and they test the pettit H. These are not shale oil well. Look up discussion on this site about COG Pettit H Oil well posted few months ago for more info. This adds to value for all who has minerals in the area--OIL plus GAS--wish I had some around this spot
ME TOO, adubu!
