I knew my family had originally come to Texas and settled in San Augustine,TX., but thru years of that side of the family going thru divorce and fact that I never knew that side of family. Since, I got contacted by landman and it was found I was an heir to the mineral rights to land in San Augustine it came to me that it would be nice to know where the old family land was. Help  in pointing me the direction would be nice. Lease refers to 862 acres ,but I don't know if it is north south ,east or west. All I recall of family talk is that my great grand mother sold the surface but retained mineral right back around 1917

OK, with that information at hand, you can now use the GIS Map online page from the Texas Railroad Commission's site to show you where those surveys are located.

The Public GIS Map Viewer is found at this link:

http://www.rrc.state.tx.us/data/online/gis/index.php#

1. Click on the link and the view should open in a seperate page.

2. Click on the Search By Survey/Abstract button.

3. A seperate window will open. In that window highlight "405-San Augustine" in the scroll down tab for "County".

4. Enter the Survey Number you are looking for in the "Abstract-A" field. (i.e. - enter the number "83" in that field to view the land in the "WM Clark" survey.

5. Click on the "Search" Button.

6. Now click on the "Map" button that has appeared in that window. It will then Display that survey in the GIS Viewer window.

You can use the zoom in/zoom out buttons to get a closer view or to zoom out to get perspective as to where the survey sits within the county. Also the left/right/up/down arrows will navigate N/S/E/W.

In any event, it appears that the Clark survey and the other adjacent surveys that your mineral are part of are situated about 5-6 miles Southwest of San Augustine and just to the West of Hwy 147
Thanks this was very helpful..also thanks to all who took the time to guide a newbie in this.as I gain knowledge I will be happy to help others as you all have. Shared knowledge is valuable to all involved
