I am trying to locate plats in the Shelby County, TX area and was told that I could find them on the Shelby County, Texas website and the Railroad Commission but I can't find them on either.

Can anyone get me a few more details on exactly where I can find plats for Shelby County, TX?

Thanks,
Cathy

I found the site for the Railroad Commission on another thread. Pulled up the search put in the survey # and moved the tool to find wells. I can see the little icon for wells but when I click on them I get a message "Loading" but nothing happens. I am using a mac would that have something to do with why nothing pops up? I did the pop up test on the railroad commission site and said I was ok there.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Cathy
You are not doing anything wrong. Sometimes, the GIS map gets a glitch and won't load... maybe the traffic is too high or they are updating or it's just wonky! But they usually get it resolved pretty quick if it's broke. I usually try to use the map from the permit page of the wells I want to look at so, if it does that, I can reload it really fast instead of having to go through that whole survey search thingy. If you just want to see the survey then that is the only way to do it unless you learn how to search for wells in a particular survey (see below).
When you see it saying "loading..." and it never does, just close the map and reopen it, go back to the survey search and do everything again. Hint: keep this page open (or put it in favorites) so you can just click the link at the top of the page:

You can search for wells in a particular survey from the main permit search page. Choose the COUNTY from the drop down (top right), then on the left side go to SURVEY NAME, then move to the box that says "begins with" and click the down arrow and choose "CONTAINS" instead. Then type the last name of the survey you want to look at. It's usually better to just use a one word search here. If there are multiple surveys with that last name you will have to do a little sifting but that's better than getting "no results".
Once you get the results you can sort them using the links at the top of the columns (API, Date, Operator, etc...).

DPS----If you are looking for specific plats on specific wells---using the RRC site--click on the drilling permit of that well you are interested in then click plat it will display copy of plat--is this what you are looking for? I am not aware of any site you can display all the plats of the complete county. Your PC needs a Alterna TIFF Plug-in reader to view these on RRC site which can be downloaded free on line just google Alterna TIFF plug-in and it will direct you to free down load
Thank you so much. I do the download now and thanks for the directions on how to get the plats. My husband inherited 15 different parcels of mineral acres in Shelby County. The problem is that we only know what survey they are in but we often see wells mentioned here that are in the same survey, just have no idea where he is in relation to the well.

Thanks again.

Hi Adubu --

Looks like Alterna TIFF Plug only works with windows. Any suggestions since I am running on a mac?

Cathy
Google "free tiff reader for mac". You should be able to find one that fits the purpose.
Firefox did the trick.
Thanks guys.
