The EPA published it's conclusions in 2004 and no follow up has been conducted. The report contained little discussion of the impact of fracking in shale plays. The report also focused solely on impacts from the actual frac, not the overall process.

Again, I am NOT anti-drilling & producing, NOT anti- O&G ... but as you say, the GOM disaster and recent local incidents should be a "bell cow" as to how we should proceed from here on out. We've seen enormous economic impact, a way around our current fossil fuel related woes and the hope for improved national energy security.

Now to make sure that more domestic investors are involved before we end up with the same fiasco that the mortgage industry found themselves in.

FACT: The bipartisan 2005 energy bill, a bill supported by then Sen. Barack Obama, clarified that Congress never intended hydraulic fracturing to be regulated under Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). Hydraulic fracturing has a 60-year record of strong local and state regulation and has never – repeat, never – resulted in a single instance of groundwater contamination. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under Presidents Clinton and Bush, the Groundwater Protection Council and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission concluded that this practice is environmentally safe.

No, no facts are great. I'm saving that one for the next time somebody gets on their soapbox about the POTUS being a nazisocialistcommiefacist (did I miss anything?) hater of the US. Thanks again for pointing it out. Somebody finally agrees that he isn't conspiring to undermine O&G industries.

Now, being that it's been 5 yrs. later and it's being pointed out that perhaps the EPA didn't do a thorough job, you'll agree that he's being smart enough again to urge that we take a look at that 2005 decision? LOL!
