David-
There is always interest and leasing going on in Most of the counties in south AR where production of hydrocarbons occurs. The first thing I would recommend is that you verify ownership of the minerals as well. I say that because the early years of the industry saw much buying and selling of mineral interests from the land owners by those who weren't actually drilling, but were profiting off surface owners who needed cash by buying the minerals cheaply from them, and then selling to others. Quite a bit done by those representing larger oil & gas companies. Yes, a reprehensible practice IMHO. In the event you do own the minerals as well, post your legal description ( location within a section, township and range) and if there is an interest in that area, perhaps one of the professionals on the sight might contact you. Good Luck!
In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of) nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
