Noticed that I haven't heard the noise of the rig for a few days and discovered that the rig is gone. There seems to be only one well-head instead of 2 ( one for Sec 6, another for Sec 1). I have read about the companies drilling just to keep the lease. Just wondering if anyone knows of this happening in our area.

Sorry, I don't. I wish there was a way to keep up with well activity. Info on the Sonris site is months behind.
I have noticed that there are supposedly 2 wells in 06-15-8, serial #'s 241453 &241438, as shown on Sonris.  I've read that 241438 is supposedly for 01-15-9, I thought that the well had to be drilled in the unit it was producing from.  Where am I going wrong?  Thanks
When reviewing horizontal wells for units composed of governmental sections, it is helpful to remember that surface locations are quite often in adjoining sections (SONRIS organizes wells based on surface locations) while the lateral is perforated (and therefore producing) in the unit section.  Even though a well may be listed in one section, owing to its surface location, it's name and it's bottom hole location will reference the section being produced.
OK, the rig is located in 1 unit and they're drilling laterally into another.  Seem to remember that in Texas, involved the railroad commission, that some folks were doing the same thing and they ended up in the the striped hotel (jail).  Would any monies be owed to the unit owners where the rig was located?  Just curious. Thanks Skip.

The term, unit, has no application as to the surface location, only to the section (unit) being produced.  Don't know what you are thinking of in regard to Texas but it is not germaine to this topic.  If the company drilling the well has a lease allowing for surface operations where the drill site is located, they can drill their lateral anywhere they choose as long as they hold the leases and have the right to develop.  If the company does not have a lease providing for surface operations, they would have to negotiate the right to use that surface location with the land owner.  If the land owner did not own the minerals, it is likely that the company would also have to negotiate a well bore easement also.  In the Haynesville Shale play, most sections are leased and force pooled, therefor an operator usually has the right to drill from an adjacent section in which they are the unit opertor or they get permission from the company that is the operator in that section.  Occasionally I have run across well bore easements but that was more common early in the play.

I don't understand the process of drilling I guess. Why is there a rig back on 6-15-8. This well and the one down the road in section 12-15-9 have got to be the slowest wells I have seen as far as the drilling process goes.

Both wells were drilled to TD (Total Depth) several months ago.  And have been listed as Waiting On Completion for some time.  That's hardly an unusual situation as the number of frac crews is still very limited.  How big is the "rig" that is back?

I believe it to be a smaller rig on 6-15-8.

As for 12-15-9, I thought I had seen the frac crew there already. The gate has been locked for a few weeks now and just assumed it might be complete.

That smaller rig is required to drill out the plugs in the well bore left behind after the frac operations are complete.  When a workover rig shows up on the pad it is normally an indication that the operator is preparing to connect the well to a pipeline.
Thanks Skip, that may have been part of the holdup. They put in a pipeline that runs along the sides of both of the sites I mentioned. It was completed almost two months ago.
Sounds like the well is about to be "turned to sales".  Good Luck.  And please consider a donation to GHS when that first royalty check hits the mailbox.
"Sounds like the well is about to be "turned to sales" ".   ALL RIGHT!!!!!
