Looks like they are wanting to drill in the north section of the 1280 acre unit the Sharp well is in.

For the last few days I haven't been able to access the Sonris lite site for well information. Does anyone know what's going on?
Their server probably just needs a reboot. They aren't there on the weekends...I am sure it will be working by midmorning.
I got a letter this weekend from Southwest's attorneys announcing a hearing for a drilling application. They are forming 4 x 1280 acre drilling units. Our property isn't part of the unit, but is very close. I don't have time to post a lot of detail this morning, but thought I would throw out this quick post. However, it does look like the Sharp well is almost dead center of the plat map furnished with the attorney's letter.
The SONRIS database was down for maintenance over the weekend. This happens periodically and you just have to wait for Monday. The letters are pre-conference notice letters required by the Office of Conservation for drilling and production unit applications. The letters offer a local conference to those on the Interested Party list. The list is compiled from the public record and includes all mineral interests within the proposed unit boundaries and those immediately adjacent to a distance of 1000'. If no one on the list requests the local conference by the deadline date, the application will be placed on the Commissioner's public hearing list. At that time the application will be enter in the database and anyone can access it.
Ben, when you get the chance please scan the application, save it as a jpg file and upload here. If that's not possible please give the unit names and sections which comprise them.
Skip, sorry I haven't posted sooner. I have been in the hospital the last couple of days, but will try and get the document scanned and posted here tomorrow.
That will be fine, Ben. Thanks. Glad your out.
The Milstead 15 #1 recently reported setting 5 1/2" casing as their final string at 9777'. This likely indicates no future plans to convert to a horizontal completion. The Milstead 15 #1 is not listed on the SONRIS Lite well file as a unit well even though it is drilled in L SMK RA SUA, Tick Creek Field. The unit application contains the standard language used for horizontal development and is a 1280 acre, two section unit sized for horizontal wells. Is SWN's purpose to HBP the unit with a single vertical well to hold the leases? Will SWN proceed to drill single vertical wells in the other 1280 acre units they have pending and proposed?
sonlite is often behind the curve. the milstead is an alt well...

I understand the temptation to think that re-entry would be the best practice, but at this point a new well with lateral leg is probably how they are going to go. A clean slate not polluted by the mistakes of naive efforts. I believe they did this with the Dean. I have worked for a small operator who has acreage north of here and they are watching this closely. In any case, I'd bet my shirt that horizontal development is in the cards eventually...these verticals are way too expensive for the formation contact area.
Yes, it is an alternate unit well however it is the only well, unit or alternate, I've ever seen on SONRIS LIte that did not use the unit designation in front of the well name. Could be an oversight but the permit to drill also omits the unit designation. The more significant issue is a well with a final casing string that renders it incapable of being converted to a horizontal completion when the unit is specifically submitted for approval and approved for horizontal development. 5 1/2' diameter casing will not accommodate a mud motor.
I'm sure Ms. Rowan will apply to change the designation in a timely manner.
"The more significant issue is a well with a final casing string that renders it incapable of being converted to a horizontal completion when the unit is specifically submitted for approval and approved for horizontal development."
where does it say that in the order establishing the unit?
Field Order 1383, Section 5, the original order creating the unit indicates the intent to drill horizontal wells. Casing programs are not part of field orders. Mud motors require a 7" diameter casing, they won't fit down a 5".
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
