I receaved a letter today from Seitel Data. Requesting permission to do Seismic Survey on my land. My concern is the damage. I have only 20 Acres in order to stay clear of my house. They would have to stay over 500 FT. Has anybody had this done and what was the damage.

if i had to guess i bet they are not drilling any holes on your place but rather just placing geo-phones. you can put this in your upfront agreement with them and negioate any other terms you feel would protect your parcel of land. all and all damages from seismic work are very minimal and most result from rutting caused by the "seismic buggies" they are using
Kenneth, king john is probably right; Seitel will want to place geophones somewhere on your land and it sounds like they want to shake the ground at various intervals with the "seismic buggies". The seismic buggies (gently) shake the ground to send energy waves into the subsurface and the geophones detect the energy as it bounces off rock layers and returns to the surface. The vibroseis truck may look similar to the attached picture.

Generally, seismic acquisition companies must stay a reasonable distance away from any structure, like a house, and must also stay a safe distance away from any well (water or otherwise). I would find out what kind of an energy source they are planning to use on your property. The more you know, the better.

Sietel wanted to set off up to 16 lbs of dynamite underground on some properties to complete the survey. How common is that and what damage, if any, can be anticipated?
Thank,s guys I talk to Sietel and they want to drill 70ft. holes and set off charges to recored the data . I just don,t think my place is a idea location. The Vibroseis truck would be ok. I would like to know if I had any gas on my land.
Did they tell you they would provide you with any information on the test results?
no information said they would sale the information to the highest bidder.
