In re to thread posted on July 30 by NatchN3 of report on Trading Markets: The report stated that CHK had unloaded 90,000 acres in the Woodford Shale in SE Okla. Houston based BP America announced a deal to buy interests from CHK for $1.75 billion. That deal should close in Aug. Aubrey McClendon, CHK chief exec, has said his co has been looking for deals on its holdings so that they can concentrate on the Haynesville Shale play. Well, it's August, so take some of that $1.75 billion and concentrate on using it to COMPENSATE the landowners. If what is under OUR land makes $30,000 an acre look like "chump change" to you in relation to the land's true value, well then - show me the money!! No more timelined group negotiations with slide percentages pitting neighbor against neighbor. When you're ready to negotiate you know were I am! No questions here - just verbal steam!

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
