Could anyone tell me what section, township and range that the J.B. Tutt Survey A-725 is located in. It is Southeast of Timpson. Thanks

Jim,

You are correct in saying that Texas uses Surveys and Abstracts. However, it is not the only state that doesn't use Section Township Range or some variation. Pennsylvania for example uses townships but the meaning of a township there is completely different. It is more like a survey/abstract, but a lot bigger and not all patented to the same person.

Hope that didn't confuse anyone.
In Texas patents are issued by the State of Texas, not the U. S. Government. This is because Texas was an independent Republic before joining the Union. Part of the statehood agreement was that Texas would continue to issue patents. It was not covered by the Statute requiring survey by the Feds and the laying out of Section, Township and Range. Texas also was granted the right to split into I believe up to 5 states.
